Since Dolan's going nowhere, and either is Isiah, and since we're not gonna have cap space or lottery picks for awhile, we probly wont have much flexability besides trading for pieces we need and keeping the assets we already have.

We already have Eddy "Baby Shaq" Curry. If he can get in shape and continue to improve his passing and rebounding, he could turn out like a poor man's O'Neal.

We already have a run and gun passer/shooter like J-Will in Crawford.

We have Marbury and Francis, who aren't nearly as good as DWade, but can do many of the same things (Francis perhaps better than Marbury in this respect).

We have a similiar player as Posey in Q-Rich, who can defend and shoot the 3. And a poor man's Zo in James.

What we need?

Our Haslem.

Our Walker (or an inside out threat like him)

Our Payton (or just a vet backup point)

This is just me, but I wouldnt mind targetting Rashard Lewis, Reggie Evans, and Eric Snow.....

Edit:

I know we wouldnt be nearly as good as the Heat are now, but we'd be a whole lot younger, and would have time to grow and hopefully 1 day be as good.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Start by getting the head coach. IMO the best in the biz for the last 22 years.

miami...another team that drafted a franchise player with wade. and draft caron and cap room to sign odom...which was a good enough package for shaq.

we won't be able to do it. we don't have the picks (unless frye turns into a stud) nor the cap room to get good enough players.

the best model we can follow is detroit...and they're the exception.

sign chauncey via the MLE.
traded for a young, unproven ben wallace.
traded vet for youth (stack for rip).
drafted prince in the low 20's.
used expirings to land a problem child in sheed.

it's a more workable model, especially without lotto picks. isiah just targeted different type of players.

True, Detroit only lotto pick is now playing in Orlando. I would suggest drafting Sene and defensive minded pg that has play making ability. Get Brown some vitamins too and get him motivated to coach again.

It's not gonna happen.

Not with Dolan and Isiah here.

And not unless we scrap everything we have already.

Detroit has defense at 5 positions. If we're gonna keep Curry, then that plans out the window. Hell, Shaq isnt much of a defender anymore himself. So its not like Curry should be ashamed of not being an All NBA defense big man.

Bottom line is we just have too many pieces we'd have to get rid of to be able to do it like Detroit.

But we DO got alotta pieces that are in the same mold as the Heat now.

An example of what I'm talking about ---

(and I'm not saying it's 100% realistic)

Trade Marbury for Eddie Jones straight up.

Trade Jalen, Nate, 20th Pick for Rashard Lewis and Fortson

Trade Mo Taylor for Eric Snow, Ira Newble, & Fut. Pick

Sign Reggie Evans full MLE

Curry:Shaq
Evans:Haslem
Lewis:Walker
Francis:Wade
Crawford:Williams

James:Zo
Richardson:Posey
Snow:Payton
Jones: D. Anderson

And then we still have David Lee and Channing Frye...

I'm annoyed with this comparing bull****. I was waiting for someone to post a thread like this after the champion is crowned.

The problem is people are too stuck on copying what another team did to win a championship. Aside from the players, there is a such thing as team chemistry. The players have to also fit the coaches philosophy.

Playing copy cat after ewing left is the reason the knicks sick right now!

There is no real way to win the tittle. All types of teams have won it all. It takes luck and just the right mix of players to get it done.

I said it before. The knicks need to clean up what they already have and figure out how they want to go about winning games. Isiah wants to run that is so obvious. He screwed up going after a coach that wants to run a the team like a plantation.

Knicks will get it together one of these days. Until then stop dickriding the teams that win and be a real fan.

what's wrong with copying something that WORKS.......?

ESPECIALLY when 1 of the player you depend on most for the future (Curry) is a striking image of Shaq (potentially atleast), and when you have, like I demonstrated, a ton other role players that resembles the Heats...

Hell, not to put them head to head, but just look at Francis' career stats and compare them to Wades'....

Notice anything similar?

There is nothing wrong with copying a good formula, but there is a large element of luck in building a championship caliber team, especially in the Miami case. Shaq was demanding a trade and they had the best package available. That was the big break, and there is no predicting that. Then they had the chance to oust Anthony Carter because his agent effed up. Another lucky break. Drafting Wade was a great move, but there was an element of luck in that too.

^ Yup, and "LUCKILY" we happen to have alot of the same elements that they do, (which I already went over).

So again......what about building like Miami is so unrealistic?
