has repeated 1st round exits, followed by missing the playoffs mean kg is overrated as a franchise player? is he just a really really good player...but not one of the special ones? or is he special and just a victim of circumstance?

if KG is Ooverrated than there is only 1 franchise player in the league and his name is Tim Duncan. Everyone is overrated after TD except Shaq in his prime, Jordan & Olajuwan

Hate to say it, but hes a tweener.

I can't say he has had enough support around him over the years.

He is not a finisher which is the only thing I might find fault with.

I'd rank him below a Charles Barkley in terms of carrying the team.

KG is Ewing with lessor support.

"franchise player" is and overused senseless term. Only TD and Shack could carry a team on their own(3 years ago). Everyone else needs help. Everyone else has flaws. KG needs help. He had it until his team got full of themselves and tore apart a good thing in search of a payday.

The problem is to many GM's fall in love with the hype, building around guys expecting them to carry the team to the promised land, not focusing on building a team.

He's better at this point in 2006 than Shaq or Duncan. He just has extremely inferior teammates (which as been the case his whole career). I know the difference between an overrated player and a bad team.

Funny me and my friends were having this discussion last nite. And we all came to the conclusion that he isn't even on Ewing's level (I was the only real Ewing fan among a group of 8). As a couple of guys pointed out that Ewing has beaten better teams then KG ever faced. Specifically we all reference 90 when the Knicks beat the Celtics. Ewing faced constant double and at many times triple teams. He was the one maIt is debateable if Ewing had more talent than KG. Despite what you think of Marbury now, when he came into the league that team was heralded as the team of the future but couldn't get past the 1st round. KG said one of his idles in the league is Ewing because the guy was able to alot with very little. They need to get KG some damn help though.

KG is on par talent wise with Ewing. But Ewing clearly was able to get more done with similar or less talent. Ewing carried a franchise and an entire city on his back for 15 years. Never won a championship and unfortunately I feel this has made him underrated.

Will has a lot to do with winning. Down the stretch of games guys like Jordan, Ewing, hakeem, TD could(no matter how poor they played the rest of the game) could literally take over an entire game for 5, 6, 7, 10 minutes and will the team to victory. KG sustains great effort on a game to game basis. Can put up fantastic numbers against any player in the league. But in terms of just taking games over down the stretch on a NIGHTLY BASIS. These guys seperate themselves from guys like KG and the other "franchise" players playing today.

Too good to be overated, too old to be a franchise player anymore.

He would certainly have plenty of support on 'this' Knicks team though. All we need is a bonified in the middle. Curry would be a fantastic back up and when they're both in the game? Watch out!
I'll never trust this' team again.

I go with this view. KG is a great player who won't strap his team on his back in the 4th quarter. it's the wrong time for him to pass the ball off every time. I think he fears the big shot. That's why his team was so good 2 years ago - Sam and Spree loved the big shot.

Kg is now called the 3 1/2 quarter man..

he doesn't step up in the clutch.. not a clutch performer and does not make players around him better..

he's a borderline superstar but no longer a franchise player..

The term franchise player only warrants its intended tag if you in fact have a franchise committed. Clearly, the Wolves aren't.

Don't hate the player -- hate the game

Yes he is.. he got 3 rings and they're in the playoffs.. I don't like Kobe but you gotta respect his game..
He is a superstar.. Lebron is probably the only guard /forward thats better than Kobe..

I don't think KG fears the big shot-- he just genuinely is not a true go-to scorer. He is a good scorer but not a great one, not good enough to give the ball against the toughest of defenses and ask him to get you points no matter what. But he is so good all around that he's certainly not overrated. You don't have to be a go-to scorer to be great (see Jason Kidd)-- even great players can have imperfections in their games.

The first round exits don't mean a thing. Look at the teammates he's had and look at the teams he's had to face before coming to a judgment about those early playoff exits.

KG is very similar to Ewing in the sense that He never really had the great star player to go with him. And I don't mean Marbury. Lets face it Ewing was given talent around him and the one time T-wolves were talented they made a run and had the best record. Right now the T-wolves are at a all time low on talent hence no play off. You also have to take into consideration a new coach new style.
