Snows lauds Larry’s way of leading. NY Post.
4/6/06

By Marc Berman

Cavalier point guard Eric Snow, one of Larry Brown's favorite players, said the key to playing for the Knick coach is being able to "make sacrifices," especially on a team that has talent.

Snow, who speaks to his former Sixer coach often, said Brown's philosophy has always been that he never should have to coach effort.

That appears to be his downfall, as Brown's Knicks have quit on the season, getting less competitive as each day passes. Brown clearly has mismanaged his players in the worst coaching job of his Hall of Fame career, as the Knicks were looking to avoid their 10th straight defeat last night.

"Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort," Snow said last night before the Cavs faced the Knicks at the Garden. "Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well."

To put it mildly. Brown asked Isiah Thomas to put in a call to the Cavs to see what it would take to land Snow, who manned the point in Philly. But the Cavs weren't willing to entertain discussions. The Knicks will be shopping for a true PG this summer, and Snow's name is bound to come up.

"When I played for Larry Brown . . . he and Allen [Iverson] had their differences, but it was never about on the court. I think that's the major difference here," Snow said. "It was never about whether guys would play hard. Is he a demanding coach? Yeah. Is he tough? Yeah. But if you listen to him, you have to be willing to make sacrifices in your game, especially when you have a team as talented as they have. Guys have to make it work. They're so talented, but everybody can't get the ball as much as they're used to."

Snow's remarks could be viewed as a dig at Stephon Marbury, who's complained of not having enough freedom.

Out of all people, who would know more than E. Snow, 76ers former team captain.

He too went through the transition and changes out in philly.. he definitely sacrificed his game and look where it took them, to the NBA finals..

Brown will get his type of players on this team during the off season... Players willing to sacrifice their game for the team..

Ex. Look @ Qyntel Woods yesterday... Played good D on LEbron, 8 rebounds, 1 block and 2 stls. no points whatever.. Woods is beginning to know his role and starting to buy into LArry's gameplan..

You'll be seeing more players in that nature playing for the knicks...

Yeah i'm sure Snow will make all the difference in the world to this team! It just amazes me how Lb can get away with the crap he's pulled this year. He actually said that Steph was slowing down and could no longer guard quicker PG's in the league. 1st of all, Steph is basically the same age as Francis, Billups and he's younger than Nash and Kidd. Those guys aren't any quicker than Steph and they aren't really better one on one defenders. Yet LB seems to think its OK to bash Steph for his D, when its really about the TEAM D, more than what Steph isn't doing. You think Snow is going to be a better defender at the Point that Steph? Give me a break! The same goes for Brevin or any of these other PG's who look so good to Larry. NONE of them is any good on D. What helps Billups is having Ben, Sheed and Prince behind him. Lets see how many guards he stopped on this team!

a marginal player that brown helped by coupling him with AI and moving AI to the off guard. He was marginal in Seattle as well but had payton and the rain man.

You guys want this guy? come on man. If larry had just moved Steph to the 2 to start the season, started Crawford at the point (instead of benching him 20 minutes before tip off) and put Q at the three, this would have been a completely different season.

Instead he shattered craw's confidence for half a season, alienated marbury into seclusion and Q (who shoots worst than Tim Thomas) is the team spokesman.

LB is a psycho, and you guys are feeding into it on a daily basis.

all kool aid all the time.

I agree if LB had done all these things we could have a harmoniious season with no turmoil and won 35-40 games and competed for the 8th seed. Oh what could have been.

Then we could watch Isiah go out and overspend for yet another "superstar" and watch that superstar finally put us over the top.

Why would that have yielded anything better than Steph, JC and TT, which had us at 17-36 after Steph's "I'm the best" comments?

And who on this team that plays no defense and has no reliable shooters has replaced what our only two-way player, Kurt, brought to the club?

Blueseats some people are under the impression that we were good last year and that it was LB that came in and ruined us.

Very few of us seem to remember our team quitting on Lenny and Herb and using their rotations as excuses as well.

the minute isiah intervened in practice, chaney was toast.
the minute marbury was allowed to yell at the koala, and wasn't reprimanded, lenny was gone.
after all the BS this year, owner and gm said, "we're with coach."

that's all you need to know.

Exactly. I simply see this season as a continuance of last.

I understand we had high hopes that the mighty Larry could interrupt that and bring back defense, pride, and commitment, and thus far his efforts have failed. I understand that. But it is a process, and it is the work he's engaged in now. Some players get it, some don't. Some of the one's who don't are the same one's who didn't last year, and the year before, and the year before...

And why would Marbury respect Lenny when Isiah had already emasculated him over his assists?

People talk about how disrespectful larry has been, but do we forget Isiah cutting off Shandon's Iron Man streak? Do we forget him banishing penny? Do we forget him leading Chaney out in shackles? Do we forget him firing Wilkens long time friend and only self-chosen assistant? Do we forget Isiah talking about a "disease" in the organization he needed to cure? Do we forget how slighted Mcdyess, F-Will, Shandon, and Motumbo felt by Isiah? How did KVH feel to read Steph got him traded?

Look, I didn't whine about all of that last year, I understand feelings get hurt in this business. That's just the way it is. But enough with the nonsense that Larry=bad guy and Isiah=good guy.
