Brown has been thinking about next season's overhaul. He revealed he's making Thomas a list of young players eligible for free agency.

"I've been trying to identify those kids all year," Brown said. "I look at rosters. Kids who might be a free agent, kids two years ago who were highly sought in the draft and it hasn't worked out for them. I've got a whole list of guys for Isiah."

http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/66363.htm

rooks entering free agency on that list

My guessses are:

Jared Jeffries
Reece Gaines
Marcus Banks
the stop underrating David Lee movement 1. FIRE MIKE 2. HIRE MULLIN 3. PAY AVERY 4. FREE NATE!!!

Jared Jeffries makes a whole lot of sense.

I wonder if Larry will tell Isiah to go after Sweetney? Do the Bulls necessarily even want Sweets back? I kind of doubt it.

couple of other names:

Drew Gooden (is he still out of favor in Cleveland?)
Melvin Ely
Jarvis Hayes
Mike Dunleavy (has a huge contract, definitely out of favor, might do enough little things to be a Brown type guy, coach's son, etc)
Troy Murphy (same deal as Dunleavy)

I see Banks, Hefferies, Ely, and Hayes on a list like this.....Maybe Reece (I LOVED this kid coming out of college I was high as a kite on him...loved his size at the PG position.)

Jarvis Hayes and Melvin Ely jump out at me....I can see Dunleavy in the mix too. Jared Jefferies is such a bum he's just lucky he's tall.

These GM's are unpredictable no telling what they would be interested in doing.

Would LB want mike james?

this is a good question, and I would have to venture no, but not because Mike is not a good/way above average PG. We all see that Mike can score and defend, but can he elevate other players and/or be a team first guy. LOTS of guys can score big on a losing team, especially when you have the ball in your hands, but is that any better (offensively) than Steph or Stevie?

Mike has shown a propensity for defense, but at the same time he is almost 31, so how many years at a high level does he have it?

Would James make the Knicks better? Probably. Good long term fit? For a couple of years.

The Knicks would also first have to get rid of Stevie and Marbury before bringing in James would make sense from a minutes perspective.

I say we still need to get a STAR player some how, so we can get some calls. (star treatment)and go from there. I like the Murphy kid can go inside and outside. Jerries is another good one. I don't like the Dunleany,,James or Hayes ones because if we go after a Star player, he probably will not play any defense so anyone else we get should be able to play both sides of the ball.

Amen, You need a star + complimentary pieces to win as proven throughout the history of basketball. sounds like a broken record but it's true.

unless your the Pistons who didnt have a star UNTIL they started winning

Add John Salmons to that list.
Also Kenny Thomas, Najera, Turkoglu and Bonzi Wells will all be on the radar as well.

jeffries is not a bad player, good IQ, long and can block shots.. Jarvis hayes can shoot, and is a solid player, might cost us too much. I want no parts of dumbleavy.....

they won't help the Knicks

Guys like Elson and Jeffries are willing defenders. Elson as a big man in that system runs the court and knows how to properly fill the lane. Jeffries is the furthes tthing from a star but he an do a little bit of everything at the 3.

Neither are headcases...never hear the word uncoachable associated with them...anti-Starburys...hmmf! no wonder you or holfresh don't want either

Do you guys think that Larry could coach the mavericks or suns? do they play the "right way" do they defend?

Come on, a good coach Eases his philosophy in, not brow beat his players until they submit, kill their games and then ship them out.

Bring in more youth that sucks will just make the knicks worst.

He's got to find a happy medium, not medium grade players.

do you even watch the NBA?

Mavs under Avery play nothing like they did in the past. They defend they play more in the halfcourt, they play with a traditional starting 5.

Suns are uptempo but they GET STOPS. Marion, Raja Bell, Diaw, Barbosa, KT all 5 guys are regular in the rotation and all 5 put it on the line defensively night in and night out.

NY is the mirror opposite of those 2 teams.

NY's - they don't execute and they don't get stops. they don't try to get stops, they don't care for stopping. they don't know the plays. they either don't care or are oo dumb to learn them. they don't know where they are supposed to be positioned during certain situations. they are dor the most part uncoachable.

mck1, the suns haven't played defense since Charles Barkley. Just because they defend better then we do doesn't make them a defensive team. It makes them the SECOND worst defensive team in the NBA. Marion blocks shots and gets seteal. But he doesn't get those man on man. its all weakside etc. Nash couldn't guard a medium sized pile of poop. Now them Mavs, I agree with you. they a re defending well this year. that's why Adrian Griffin started half the season. If he started here we'd all be having convulsions

Now here's a good one. Would Larry ignore Nash's lack of defense and be happy with his offensive game or would he show him up in the papers?

I was about to say the exact same thing about Dallas. PHX would be a better defensive team and Larry would allow Nash to just run the point, because he initiates the offense. See the difference between Nash and Kidd, pure PGs and guys like Steph, and AI, and Francis....Nash and Kidd make it a 5 on 5 game by using their teammates. Steph, Francis, and AI make it a 1 on 5 game and only AI has the talent, guts, pride, and will to lift his team in a game like that, IMO

Nash hussles, Marbury doesnt. Even if he isn't a great man defender he still gives 150% he scraps for loose balls, he comes to the baseline and helps his bigs out on the boards, he plays the passing lanes

and firefly...since Barkley Westphal's teams D'ed up...LOL
