Its a funny stat line but I will say it again. This would be a PERFECT pickup for us an reasonably priced. You can stick him next to guys like Curry and Frye and we are immediatly a much better team.

He doesnt care about getting shots, only doing the dirty work. This guy cleans the defensive glass like a Rodman/Oakley type.

I am all for Reggie Evans. I dont know why some people think he not going to fit. He is an awesome rebounder and he is 6'9! If we are sending Mo T or Malik out, we should bring Reggie Evans in. I think he is a good player and fit well.

We have been better the last few games but I think our numbers look good because we get blown out in the 3rd and our rebounding picks up in garbage time. No stats to back this up though.

i disagree... I think we are a team that collects a lot of rebounds. I dont think for one second opposing teams look at the Knicks and think they are going to get beat on the boards. The Oak, Ewing, Mason, LJ, et all groups OWNED the glass. Guys didnt even bother trying to crash the glass for offensive boards. Reggie Evans is just a piece but he gets us closer to the kind of team that OWNS the glass.

We arent tough. We dont rip rebounds out of guys hands. We arent knocking down bodies when they try to attack the offensive glass. RE is that kind of guy

he'd be a nice piece to have, but we need a shotblocker more than we need rebounders... dirty work players like him are great, but we already have a young PF who needs playing time to realize his potential in Frye, along w/a 3/4 swingman who's a good rebounder in his own right in Lee... a shotblocker should be our #1 priority during the offseason

Just b/c we get a lot of rebounds doesn't mean we are a good rebounding team. How many good rebounders are on the team? Malik, Steve Francism Quentin. That's not your frontcourt controlling the boards. Frye doesn't know how to box out. Curry is still lazy and out of shape. James is James. None of our frontcourt players besides Malik have crap against our Knicks of old, heck, they don't have crap when it was Camby, LJ and Ewing as our frontcourt. And to add to that, for TODAY, I'd rather see Spoon and Kurt Thomas under the boards. We don't have good rebounders and you need good rebounders to be a good rebounding team. We do get the offensive boards from hustle, but we can't box out or put a body on people or gang rebound. I'm confident Frye will at least work on this and hopefully Curry too. But they need to get in the proper shape. They just both happen to be on the opposite sides of the spectrum right now. Don't look at the numbers.

add David Lee to that list... he can easily average double figures in bounds if he ever get the minutes.

Lee, Francis, and Q-Rich are certainly good rebounders. So was Nate when he actually played. Frye and Curry statistically are about average even though they make many mistakes and could be much better (i.e. way above average).

I think you're misreading the statistics. We're an excellent OFFENSE rebounding team - only an average defensive rebounding team, typical of teams that have athletic guys but are not very good at boxing out and don't pay as much attention as they should to getting back on defense.

During the Ewing, Oak era -we were never a very good offensive rebounding team but did an excellent job on the defensive glass - which usually goes along with playing good defense.

I was thinking the advantage came in part from us being a lousy defensive team- that we gave up good shots to the opposing team & they convert a high percentage, thus the lack of rebounds that they need to get.

Personally, I would hope that Lee would fill the same role as a reggie evans would, only a lot cheaper. Also, what about Jackie Butler? He seems to be very much in the line of a clean him up kinda role player.


I'd rather spend the MLE on Butler & Q Wood.

Not sure about that. We have a rebounding advantage on both ends of the court (offensive and defensive). I think people say "we don't have any Oaks, Ewings, Masons," so we aren't a going rebounding. They don't realize what we do have are a lot of good rebounding guards and adequate rebounding bigs.

I don't know either and I agree that our main problem isn't rebounding

We're being outscored by an average of 6 points a night but outrebound the other team by 3.4. We turn the ball over 3.2 more times than our opponents and allow them to shoot a higher percentage from 2 & 3 and somehow, the opposition has hoisted almost 8 more 3 pointers per game.

Those six points aren't the result of offensive rebounds- they are turn overs and open three pointers and you could almost say its the three pointers alone that give them the point spread they have.

I agree with you that turnovers, defensive FG% (and a lot of other areas) are huge problems for this team. I was focusing in this thread solely on rebounding.

Turnovers and opponents fg% can be fixed internally. There is no trade out there that will fix that. That is a chemistry issue.

I mentioned before that the knicks actually have the players they need but Larry doesn't play them and they are in experienced anyway. A guy like Reggie Evans is already battle tested and understands his role because he has embraced it in two different cities. Question is what do the knicks do with lee and butler?

Knicks need to open up roster spots. Woods and butler are too good to let go....but to get a guy that is a rock like Evans then something has to give.

Shot blocker, shot blocker....where for art thou shot blocker? Who is available and worth the trouble to be curry's back-up?

Marbury plays good defense in stretches when he's motivated. I have some hope for him if he's in a winning environment. Crawford's never played one minute of good defense. I have zero hope for him.
