New York is reportedly trying to revive trade talks concerning Steve Francis.

Channing Frye and Francis would go to Denver, Kenyon Martin would go to New York and Penny Hardaway would go to Orlando.

Miles and Ratliffe back on the forefront for Knicks:Newsday - When Knicks president Isiah Thomas agreed to take on Penny Hardaway's contract as part of the price for Stephon Marbury two years ago, it was with the next few days before Thursday's NBA trade deadline in mind. Hardaway's expiring $15.75-million deal is the key to potential trades with teams looking to clear salary-cap space.

Talks involving the Knicks' interest in Portland's Theo Ratliff and Darius Miles have moved back to the forefront, according to a Western Conference personnel expert. Orlando's Steve Francis and Denver's Kenyon Martin seem to be fading as Knicks trade targets.

Seattle has an interest in dumping some bad contracts, but if forward Reggie Evans is the player the Knicks want, they can wait until this summer, when he will be a free agent, without adding a load of spare parts.

The key question is whether the players being offered to the Knicks fit coach Larry Brown's requirements and which other players the Knicks might have to add to a deal. Center Eddy Curry and rookie forward Channing Frye have been identified by Brown as the future cornerstones of the franchise, but there is interest around the league in rookie forward David Lee and shooting guard Jamal Crawford.

Earlier talk of a three-way deal with Denver, Orlando and the Knicks also has fallen by the wayside. The Magic likes Crawford but is leery of taking Nuggets forward Nene when he is coming off knee surgery.

Denver and the Knicks could do a deal in which they exchange Martin for Hardaway's contract, but that provides no immediate help for the Nuggets. It also could be expanded to include Crawford for backup point guard Earl Watson.

But Martin is struggling with knee pain resulting from microfracture surgery last summer, and that makes him a huge risk because he has another five seasons worth $70.9 million left on his contract. He played less than nine minutes in the Nuggets' final game before the All-Star break because he said he couldn't tolerate the pain.

The Knicks would consider Martin, but he would have to undergo a battery of tests similar to what Curry underwent for his heart condition.

No doubt, there are other teams interested in Hardaway's contract, but the most logical deal is with Portland. If the Knicks want to keep Lee, who has spent this season learning small forward after playing power forward most of his life, they can let Hardaway's contract expire and use the savings to pay for more moves next season, when Jalen Rose and Maurice Taylor will be in the last year of their contracts. I wouldn't eff with microfracture surgery for that big of a contract coming back. Qyntel Woods has similar upside to Miles without the contract. That leaves Ratliffe who will break down in the next few years.. I don't do this deal either.

if we take kenyon martin off denver's hands, I want at least five unrestricted first round picks- we took one pick from toronto for jalens deal- at that rate, Denver would need to send us five.

And if they want Frye, they can send us Melo.

Actually-from the knx standpoint-frye, penny for watson, melo and kmart isn't bad, frees Lee for PF-give us a sf starter for 10 years and the point that LB wants. But who's going to put a gun to kiki's head.
