I was watching him vs the grizzlies the other night and he was getting his shot blocked by jake tskalidas of all people, I think he blocked it twice and right now I am watching him vs the Hawks and he looks slow, very slow, I don't know, I was down on curry a bit, but I don't know if I would trade him for bynum, heck I will just wait curry out. It is funny at times bynum can look decent and other times he doesn't even look like a prospect, Iknow that is youth, but damn, he can't even distinguish himself from the Hawks backup center, estaban Batista... geez..

Curry was much better at Bynum's age.

Bynum just turned 18 years old and played a total of 21 HS games. He has shown all of the various big man skills in brief stints. This is a gigantic growing human being, hes not going to be doing 4.7 40s. I watch him all the time, he's done very well almost every time called upon for short stints. tonight he blocked 3 shots in a row against the Hawks in like 3 something minutes. Talk to me about Bynum when he is 21.

be realistic. There is definatly a Jerome James downside there.

There is downside to any player who hasnt hit a peak in his play, or in this case has a ways to go. But you have to add in the the intangibles.
number 1 very hard work ethic
number 2 very intelligent 1100 sat
number 3 willing student
if you add up that he is 7-2 275 and growing and these tidbits, I would say the downside is more like a Brendan Haywood.

Well I'd say his upside is Brendan Haywood. Also there are a host of players who are academically gifted. Doesn't translate to the court. I can't believe you keep talking about his SAT score in reference to his potential to dominate in the NBA lol. Now THAT'S funny.

I prefer intelligent players. In fact If I was doing a team, that would be at or near the top of the criteria list.

Hey, fair enough about Bynum's potential being high and about it taking 3 years to evaluate him (and I hope he makes it). But it seems silly to harp on every good thing he does now while totally discounting every struggle or bad showing. Balanced reporting, people.

^^^^That's my point. When Bynum had a good 'few minutes' against a deflated Knick team in garbage time it deserved it's own thread. At the same time, when he looks like a scrub it's all about 'well you can't really judge him now, you must wait 3 years'. If the good deserves spirited reactions, why can't the negative? It's a simple balance

yes I have seen him bumble plays here and there, yes I can see he is raw, his body not conditioned like an nBA player but I expect that. I think what he has done this year, shown signs of all skills, played well in many games when called upon, played to his level in others, is right on course. he has a lot of good fundamental features, and when he is done growing and his body has become accustomed to moving up and down the court, hes going to be a load to stop. If there was a negative report to give, surely i would give it. But what he has done in just limited minutes has been par the course.

SAT score and basketball IQ are quite different. I bet an articulate guy like Jamal got a respectable SAT score. SAT score doesn't tell you anything about the player's bball decision making, work ethic, character, committment. It does tell us that Bynum can add, subtract, do basic verbal analogies, and sentence completions. It tells us very little that's relevant to basketball, though. The relationship between SAT score and anything on the basketball court is far too distant and vague to cite as evidence supporting a player's potential.

While I dunno if the SAT predicts anything at all well, I strongly agree that intelligence, aka, baketballl IQ in the case of bball players should be on the top of the list when you make a team.

The reason we suck is because for the past few years, IT has been focused on bringing in the young, athletic BORDERLINE RETARDS to the team. And that has to stop.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

C'mon guys - Larry Bird and Magic Johnson played basketball with as much smarts as anyone in the history of the game. Has anyone gone back and checked ther SAT's? Maybe on the basketball court smart is as smart does.

Andrew Bynum is our doppelganger.

Meaning "double walker" a doppelganger is a shadow-self that accompanies every human. Only the owner of a doppelganger can see it, otherwise it is invisible to human eyes. Dogs and cats have been known to see doppelgangers. Providing sympathetic company, a doppelganger almost always stands behind a person, and they cast no reflection in a mirror. They are prepared to listen and give advice to humans, either implanting ideas in their heads, or a sort of osmosis. It is said to be bad luck if it is seen, and rarely a doppelganger will make itself visible to friends or family, often causing great confusion. Doppelgangers can be mischievous and malicious.
