Chauncey Billups PPG 18.8 | APG 8.4 | SPG 0.7
Gilbert Arenas PPG 28.2 | APG 5.9 | SPG 1.8

This year, Francis and Bibby are the only ones on that list I'd rank Marbury ahead of. If Marbury had teammates as good as most of those PGs do, Marbury would put up better #s on a better team and would be ranked much higher, though.

I'll take Bibby over Marbury anyday. It's not all about stats. The only guy I'd take Marbury over is Francis.

Oh wait never mind Marbury takes up more capspace than Francis and he isn't that much better so I would take Francis

Arenas and Iverson number wise before Marbury. I'd say Marbury is one of the best in the league, but not THE BEST.

I would not rank him given the particulars.

Is he better than Billups? Or does the pistons make Billups??
LIkewise, what is the effect this year of knicks on marbs?

Nash, Kidd, and Paul are the only true points on that list.

The question was this yr only! And with that criteria, the only guy Marbury ranks ahead of this season is Francis. He's right there with Bibby (Bibby has made some clutch shots this season but he rarely makes anyone better on his team. Miller is the best passer on the Kings.)

thats why I think "true point guard" is overrated. I'll take a leader, a guy who can hit a clutch shot and take over a game anyday & knows when and where to get the ball. Just look at Jalen, he's not a true PG but look at how he finds the open man every time with ball movement and feeding the post. I'm pretty sure Billups is doing the same for Detroit.

Marbury is a far better PG than Iverson. Iverson is the better scorer. Marbury is actually more active on defense these days.

This is an awesome question to ask when the guy is out injured.

the only player who I think would compliment, forget a post player since he can't get the ball inside, is a pure shooter. Marbury likes finding the open man on the perimeter. Look at all the open shots he gets Q and Crawford only for them to throw up bricks. Just think about how good he and Van Horn looked. If we are sticking with Marbury which will have no choice but to, we have to get him a SG/SF who has size and shoots lights out. Gotta hope for the best with the Denver pick!

edit: with that said it should be interesting to see how Marbury and Jalen work together. Jalen hits the open jumper. Marbury never had a shooter other than Van Horn. Think about the possibilities! Unfortunately the plan was to pair Marbury with H20 who was damaged goods.

In terms of being a PG and floor general, I'd say Kidd and Nash are clearly the better floor generals, and Marbury is on the same level as Billups and Parker and Davis, while Chris Paul has some time to go. We'll see in a couple of years for him. Bibby is not a better player than Marbury in any aspect, besides maybe open jumpshooting and free throw shooting. And I am a big Bibby fan.

Arenas, Francis and Iverson are not point guards.

Billups is a very good player in his own right but I will take Marbs over him....I have never seen Marbs on a good team in his entire career...He has almost been the best player on all teams he has been on except maybe KG, and Marbs was a stud then....The thing that I think lots of people miss when ranking these players is this...Marbs has been playing at this level the last 9 years....There are only one other player on this list playing tht type of ball all their career and thats AI....

Lots of those guys fit a system and they have thrived in that system..See Steve Nash...See Billups...

Marbs don't get alot of credit because he is always painted in the press as being a bad guy....I wouldn't say he is the best but he is one of the best in the league....Just maybe one or two guys better...I would love to see Marbs on a good team...Marbs is one of the few guys you can ask to do anything for your team on this list....

It's also really unfair to judge him this year...Larry has asked him to play differently, the team is trying to play differently, the players have not had the time playing consistanly..The Knicks still don't have a rotation yet....How can Marbs be judged on this year only...Seems like he is being set up to fail if you ask me.....

marbs is sleeping in the bed he made.
he left kg.
he left pheonix.

so he had two chances to play with some talent.

marbs talentwise is a stud but like nalod said, there's only 3 pure points on that list - nash, kidd, and paul and they're all better than steph. the rest can be debated.

d'antoni told him about his system. marbury wasn't on board with it.

THe great debate goes like:

Marbs is a better basketball player than Billups, but Billups is a better general and plays on a better team. But does he make them better, or does the team make them?

Chicken or Egg, Ying or Yang.

All I know is Marbury takes up $20mm of a $45mm cap. Very hard to build a winner that way unless its Duncan, KG, Kobe, Lebron

enough w/the stuff about AI not being a true PG... neither is Marbury for that matter... Marbury can't tie AI's shoes... get real.

I could agree more. "true PG" most overrated notion ever. Give me a guy who takes over games, makes his teammates better by getting them the ball where they can do something with it anyday

the only "true PG's" on that list are Chris Paul, Jason Kidd & Steve Nash anyway... let's stick to who plays the position & keep the overanalysis to the snitbots, shall we?
