I haven't met him but I've talked to enough who have. They all say he is a car salesman type who is slick as oil and has that feel of a snake.

Earl, I hear you. But rememeber its Isiah who is a public figure first and formost.

His credability as a player was establised in the public arena and he likes the limelight.
He created is postitive press, and the negative.

We judge him by what we read.

If we could just judge him on his winning % it would be much easier!

mister earl - i met him and had a nice 15 minute discussion with him about the salary cap. i made a post about it way back (last may/june). i asked him when were we ever going to get within cap manageability so we can have players that are easier to move and to justify our spending. his response to me was "do you want to be over the cap or under the cap?" he had no intentions of getting under the cap and says that it's the right way to proceed. he believes that if we want a star in ny, we can trade for him. i pretty much disagreed with everything he said except for one thing, we should be happy to have an owner that's willing to spend dollars. that is true but it's tough to be happy when those dollars are misspent.

he is a SMOOOOOOOOTH talker. very SMOOOOOOTH. he had everyone there (it was a season subscriber forum) eating out of his hands. but what he was saying and what i believe were very different things.

martin, i liked the possibilities when we hired isiah, but ive grown to dislike this guy--i dont need nor want to know him. To bad because he was one helluva tough player. I didnt dislike Layden, it just wasnt in the cards--he wasnt a fit here. This guy is a snake, and although some people feel its DERAGATORY to talk crap about him, he's hijacked this team and has turned this into a circus. There are ways the fans can turn up pressure on him like they did with Laydumb and Im sure those steps will start to be employed. There will be a lot of NY fans who dont rest until HE is gone. We really need to get out of this, but Dolan is way to stupid and naive to understand it. If the guy is out playing is flute or whatever with his band--who is watching the team--steve mills?

I think I could have been OK with most all of Isiah's moves so far except top 3 protection on this year's draft. And I don't think Lee needed to be included for that to happen.

well, i wouldnt stop at that, but certainly a top 5 protection and no switchie next year wouldve made the deal fair for a player who was a huge health risk that no one wanted at the time. so we have to suffer through this season and are rewarded with potentially giving Chicago a top 5 pick. are we going to come back the same club? how can you sell that?

simple.

only the young Knicks have the potential to grow from within. In addition to that, they are going to buck the odds and do the impossible and learn how to become defenders on he NBA level. Because we all know its easier for a guy like Crawford or Curry to learn the will conditioning and technique it takes to defend than it is for a guy like Dalembert or Igoudala to find an open gym and practice shooting.

Martin - so, let me help you out. In other words you have never met him, Second-hand don't count.

So far, only djsunyc has talked to Isiah. I met Ernie Grunfeld once and always liked the fact he played with Bernard. He also had the courage to trade Oakley for Camby. Ernie should have never been fired in New York. The same Marcus Camby that Isiah drafted.

second hand don't count for what? It sure is good enough for me to make an informed opinion upon. If I shook Isiah's hand at some meet and greet than that would have been good enough? don't make sense.

You didn't even ask who I was talking about. Could be Isiah's wife and agent for all you know.

snake is not about the record, it's about his own personality. He's a snake at 70 game season as he is at lottery bound team. Sore loser when he stormed off the court after being defeated in Championship games, and an unconfirmed loser if he did try to ice Jordon out of an all-star game.

Apparently if you met Isiah for 2 seconds and shook his hand then, and only then, would you be qualified to judge his work here with the Knicks. Oh, and if he played with Bernard King, then even better.

Keeping to Isiah the answer is yes. When he was first hired I was of the opinion that he was essentially a snake and a used car saleman. That being said I was happy with the move. I even said those traits could be positives. I always knew he could work the draft well, but we needed someone in here who could deal, or convince a players to sign here where as Layden couldnt have.

Needless to say he has failed miserably. Rather than be smooth and deal he's been hosed by team after team. Need to dump a bad contract? Call Isiah.

Oh... but his charisma did woo free agents Jerome JAmes and Vin Baker. We cant discount that.

Maybe you havent watched the games but the Knicks suck right now. It should be an exciting offseason however (for the Bulls)

Lets not forget you were very impressed by him. i remember specifically you saying that although you didn't agree with him, you had gained alot of respect for him. Someone find the thread.

yup, i was impressed at how articulate he was and how good he came off. you can easily see how he could get a ton of supporters. he is a smooth talker man. but i still disagree with some of his moves.

It is not necessary to meet a public figure like Thomas in order to form an opinion about his character.

You have more of a case if you're trying to argue you shouldn't be making these judgements unless you know a person well... but shaking Thomas' hand while exchanging a few words because with him cause he's forced to make public appereances and talk to the little people every now and then doesn't exactly measure up.

Again, I'm not saying we should or shouldn't have included the picks in the Curry deal, b/c it's still too early to tell, but it's so ironic how for the past 4 years, we say it's better to be horrible then mediocre, for the sake of having a good draft pick, and finally we are horrible and we don't even have one.
