the ny post kind of intimated that indiana would taking expiring contracts for Artest--i mean even if there is a small chance--isnt it worth it?

I know we can do Penny and Ariza for Croshere Johnson and Artest. They get a young prospect and lose 18mm off the cap next year. We should put it on the table one more time for a 24 hour period, take it or leave it, even if they have left it before. Re-introduce it one last time. Ill even through in Nate.

I'd do the same. The Knicks need Artest, there isnt a doubt in my mind. I love Nate but if the Pacers want him in a deal centered around Penny and Ariza to get Artest, I'd have to throw him in - wouldn't want to but I think you have too.

I dont get why Indiana would trade Artest for salary cap relief. Its not like Artest is making $20 million like Marbury is. He is making $7 million for 3 more years. Thats not a terrible contract.

I think its good money spent. I think we CAN get to the playoffs this year and next, which would make up for the extra cash next year.

Id give them
Nate
Davis
Trevor
Butler
for
Croshere
Artest
Johnson

that would put us at a 9 man r of

C- Curry
F- Croshere
F- Lee
G Artest
G Marbury
C/F Frye
F Taylor
G Crawford
G Johnson

I think its a much smarter much more diversified team. I really think we can be players with this line up.

because Indy isnt getting the offers it wants and they HAVE to move Artest. And with JO going down for who knows how long, they probably figure its a good time to rebuild/restructure.

i agree, i truly believe we are a player like him away from being a very good team. He can defend any 2 or 3, plus he can score when needed. it would definately be a dream come true to get artest for scraps.

But the outlined deal would save them 28mm $ next year 18mm in salaries and 10 on the LT+ an additional 10mm the following year.

if we made this deal, our cap number would be a little less next year, but going forward, the cap number gets under control the following year by mega millions. now if you can get to the playoffs where you have that extra rev both years THEN go into a season where the cap srops to like 65-70 or something--then they can make back money lost. sitting in no mans land blah

Why not use the expiring contracts as components of deals to bring in young guys with a winning attitude to build with?

It's not that I don't like Artest; it's that I don't trust him. He's quit on his team too many times and has the wrong attitude. The exp contracts could be part of trades involving Rashard Lewis or maybe Chandler + either Duhon or Deng. Maybe Wally. Maybe Jalen plus Denver's unprotected #1 and a 2nd rd pick. Maybe Pierce. Maybe Lamar Odom plus Brian Grant. Maybe Pietrus plus Foyle. Maybe Battier or Warrick plus Eddy Jones or Mike Miller. Those are just some possibilities that come to my mind in less than a minute. I'd prefer any of those to Ron. Spare us the talk about those guys never amounting to the talent Ron is. There's no dispute about that. We need winners; not simply talented players with the wrong attitude.

I think Ron has a winning, competitive attitude- sometimes that gets the better of him- and sometimes he looses focus

BRIGGS, I'm on the fence with Artest. With his history and odd-ball behavior, you would take a chance?

I gues Zeke has first hand experience and would know best.

Davis or Penny and Ariza for Artest and Croshere or no deal. Fyre, Nate, Lee off limits. Otherwise trade contracts for draft picks and expendable filler, or let them expire. Trade Q and/or JJ for whatever good deals we can get. MoT can be traded if picks come back in return, or just let him stay and expire after next year.

if its expiring deals & ariza- that's not a high price to pay if it goes sour.

What if you could get a less talented but still good player that was young and didn't have the question marks Ron has? (See previous post for just a few examples.)

I wouldn't let Ariza go, just because hes in Larry's doghouse doesn't mean we should let him go. Ariza was very promising last year, hes a great defender, and Qyntel Woods is **** IMO.

you had me at hello, but only 2 of 3 of Trevor, Nate, Butler. For whatever reason, I have this weird attachment to Bulter and like his game a lot.

surprisingly, I think NY still has a shot at Artest. Donnie is taking too much time. The more time that passes the more time NY has of getting involved somehow.
