it was vin + moochie + #2 pick for mo taylor

we took back an EXTRA $10 mil in contract AND gave up a #2 in the process.
the deal was made AFTER our the january debacle and the playoffs not really in the cards.

we all questioned why? at least some of the "sane" ones did.

i think it has to do with kurt. i think steph told isiah that he wanted kurt gone. remember, isiah loved kurt and gave him the 4 year extension. so why deal for mo taylor, especially with sweetney already on the roster? b/c isiah was going to trade kurt at the first available deal...and that's what he did. the pheonix deal was the FIRST one proposed to isiah and he took it.

so in conclusion, why is mo taylor here? steph wanted kurt gone could be a possible explanation.

If you wanna recall trades, recall the Malik one too. Same ****in day.

In that 1 day, we took back 25-30 Million dollars longterm.

And for what?

Ya.....but Isiah's a good GM.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Of course Isiah would argue that the money is not a factor with the Knicks and that if you look at the trades on talent alone we won out. Mo is not a bad sub, neither is Rose. They are both making way too much money. I think that Isiah sees them as future trade chips when their deals are expiring. If we ever shorten the rotation and Mo is preforming well in 10 minutes a game I could see him being traded for a decent player next year.

I can't see Rose being moved like that though because he seems like he's on the down side of his career and shouldn't be in the PF rotation here. If someone makes a trade with him involved he's not going to be the primary player traded, he'll just be filler with a huge $ amount.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Those were two really dumb trades. Even if we did get two crappy first round pick from the Spurs.

And I'd argue that Isiah is an idiot for saying that.

YOU DON'T TAKE ON LONGTERM SALARY LIKE THAT FOR MARGINAL TALENT UPGRADE!

That's like a friggin rule of thumb. Isiah was so busy fine tuning a roster that wasn't even near complete, instead of worrying about the core.

So to this day, thanks to Layden and Isiah, we STILL have no core, and are 75 Million dollars over the cap.

If the cap didn't matter, there wouldn't be 1 to begin with.

The Malik deal brought us Rose, and Nate with the chip given to Phoenix. O did't understand the Taylor trade then and I still don't-It wasn't like we didn't have a power forward to replace KT.

Bobs-for your edification the cap was put in to stop the ridiculous payment to the superstars. Without it, the knicks and lakers and Chicagos would have all the superstars they wanted (of course IT would still have a disfunctional group).

I know why there's a cap, b/c it levels the playing field, but that's the point. It IS in place. Therefore it matters. Layden and Isiah have completely disregarded it's presence.

if there was a cap in baseball, do you think the yankees would cut salary to get under the cap? or do you think they would keep adding salary as they saw fit? i'm sure it would be ok if they are winning. well, if isiah can turn this mess around, then who cares how far over the cap we are, it really just gives us more flexibility to get more talented players.

Mo was great last night, now if he could only learn to pass it out of the post....

We gave up two useless players and a second round pick (in a year that we ended up with three first rounders) to a guy who's useful off the bench. Why does that upset so many people?

yes, mo had a good game last night giving us 18 points...but really, who cares? frye can give us 25-30 if we kept giving him the ball. mo had TWO rebounds. TWO F'N REBOUNDS. all he likes to do is shoot shoot shoot and he just happened to be hitting them last night. it's still a total BONEHEAD deal.

ira, the 2nd round pick is THIS upcoming draft, the same one where we traded away our first pick (unprotected) and have the spurs pick, around 28 or 29. and by the looks of it, that second rounder could be in the 32-35 range.

yup, mo is useful off the bench...for a 7-21 team.

I am kinda liking Mo these days. I see the effort on D. I can't believe I just wrote that.

No rebounds last night, but others were scooping them up. You can say 2 rebounds by Mo, but it's not like we were getting outrebounded.

DJ, I agree with your premise that Mo was brought in as a pick and roll safeguard in the event he'd trade Kurt, and that Kurt had to go cause he wanted to knock Steph's block off.If I recall correctly he was direct quoted as saying that in front of Isiah, though I do forget it that came from the news reports or inside info.

Listen, good PFs are hard to get in this league, but Mo was obtained before Curry, AD, JJ, Frye and Lee. lets just say that at the time it was unlikely we'd get Curry, and unlikely that our draft pick (Frye) would emerge as quickly as he has, thus in the presumed absence of Kurt Mo would likely have been our starting PF this year.

Some may not like the thought of that, but you have to consider that the only alternative, at the time of the trade, would have been Malik.

Isiah's problem has been in getting good two way players, so he's had to get guys who are all offense and no d, or vice versa. Hence the platooning of Malik and Mo.

Fortunately other options have emerged since the signings, but at the time, in order to replace a respectable two-way player in Kurt he needed to grab two erstwhile one-dimensional guys in Malik and Mo.

i was upset, not only b/c we gave up a pick AND two expiring deals this year, BUT more importantly, we had sweetney, who at that point, did not get the minutes for us to fully evaluate his place on our team.
