At first it didnt bother me that the Knicks gave up picks for Curry. The Knicks need to rebuild and without picks it makes the next few trades critical. They have to take the two expiring contracts this year and get a SF or a PG that is solid and what Brown wants. Is this going to solve the problems no but they have to be patient and get rid of some of the dead weight. Taylor, Rose should be expendable the next year. I think it will take two years to get this team competitive. You have Curry, Frye get a block for the two expiring contracts and then you have something. The only way this will work is trim payroll, make sound trades and be patient, and I am not sure that is feasible in NYC.

the thing that bothers me on the picks, and lets be honest it could be Sweetney two very high lottery picks and two 2s, for a guy frankly no one wanted including the bulls. I mean whats wrong with Sweetney and a lottery protected 1/ Id be down with that--where was the bulls leverage? if that meant staying patient and signing Curry with an MLE[no one else was paying him] the next year so what???

water under the bridge--what the fudge do we have to trade now? if Im another team, other than frye and curry at the right price, i dont want ANYONE, not even marbruy because of $$$

maybe we find a team desperate to dump salary--who are they giving up utah giving up kirilenko in a salry dump? doubt it

if we walked out of this draft with rudy gay and taj gray, we would have the most exciting up and coming frontline in the nBA and it couldve happened

I agree but we have to look forward and tell me how this team can be better in two years. I just think you need to package the Spurs pick and Ariza or Nate and move up in the draft to get a piece. We can bring in a Rose or someone and add salary unless they will help the team a lot. You have to be careful who you bring in dont you agree.

its almost impossible to justify bringing in a player for an ending contract unless it was accompanied by unprotected 1s--and that is not happening. A player we would want--who could be acceptable for a large ending contract like Kirielnko--were not getting. People want to give us crp, they know we are desperate.

I say let the contracts burn out--save the cash--- try to buy a pick from a team turned off by this draft or who wants the cap$$$ as high as possible and then check the options.

the main thing is we must try harder to improve from within--
Curry losing 25 pounds
Crawford gaining 10 pounds

and just get rid of q rich for a garbage bag--maybe kenny thomas--anyone else.

i think were stuck with marbury so we must make the best of it, hes still a high caliber player who is the only consistent guy on the team--not likley the right guy, but at 20mm per its to late.

If we trade QR for a garbage bag we will have to throw in a draft pick that guy is awful. I was more thinking a lover boy album and a reach around. I agree with the Marbury thing and if we got robbed who cares get rid of him also. Briggs really enjoy talking sports with you and the rest of the people on this board.

Its just to bad any of us have to have conversations like this--- id prefer to be talking about what player would get us from the eastern conference finals to the championship

this open pocket book system of spending has hurt this team when you have a blank check to spend, you're more likely to make mistakes

thats like giving your credit card to your teenage daughter and saying get whatever you want and then finding a 4k bill the next month from the mall.

and i still don't understand how people think that it's ok to just keep spending, spending, and spending.

UNTIL the day comes where dolan says, "ok, enough is enough, i want to start cutting back on the payroll", we will be stuck in this vicious cycle.

the key word in this entire thread is "STUCK". and not "STUCK" with an individual player persay, but with a contract that we just can't move without taking back an equally flawed or WORSE player with the same doo doo contract. vicious cycle indeed...

The irony is, Isiah does only one thing well: draft. He stinks at trades and free agency signings.

He should be a scout.

And if Curry reaches his potential, people will be saying Isiah is better than all other GMs at trades.

JC is sure getting better. i think we def got the better of that trade. If we dont give the bulls a top 5 pick, then the curry trade will be fine since Sweets is still too fat.

i see him as being the same as he was when he last played, not so much better. but we all know he was out of shape and has been injured off and on. i'd still do the deal, since sweets is nothing special, but would have top5 protected the pick. i just hope we give the bulls #6 or higher. but if curry becomes a beast and can work in Browns system, i wont care.

Yup, if that happens than he could be. Until that happens, he isn't. At this point, he is near the bottom of the pack.

Funny thing about GMs in any sport: It takes YEARS for their plans to settle in and a TON of luck for things to pan out.

Look at Jerry West and the Grizz or Dumars in Detroit or the Spurs. Each took about 5 years until they became big time and each had a HUGE dash of luck somewhere along the line. And I wouldn't even say 3 years is enough to give a good GM the time to turn a franchise around from total kaka.

West was hired in 02.

President of Basketball Operations, Memphis Grizzlies (2002 — present; announced on April 30, 2002)

03-04 Grizz win 50 and make the play-offs (both franchise firsts)
04-05 Grizz win 47 and make it again (back-2-back post-seasons)
05-06 Grizz are presently 16-9 (.640win %, no. 1 defensive team in the NBA)

People said that of his picks for Utah, but he never drafted well for us.

Like Martin said, it takes years to evaluate many trades. Curry's very young. Instead of looking at the glass as half empty, you could just as easily say it was a good trade because of Curry's upside *until he fails to reach his potential*. So far he's neither failed nor succeeded.
