Smith: Nothin' But (Inter) Net. TheStar.com. 12/21/05.

By Doug Smith

Okay, what now?

What now do you do with Jalen Rose, who awoke from his season-long slumber
to play well - not good, well - as the Road Warriors beat the clueless
Magic.

Now do you cut Joey Graham's minutes for Rose? Sacrifice the kid's learning
for the veteran's savvy? Do you hope Rose finds his shot and his game and
you win 27 games instead of 22? Or do you showcase him, let him play 20 or
25 minutes a night, hoping he comes around good enough that some desperate
team (Hello? Knicks? It's the Raptors calling!) takes a shot on him.

This may be very interesting, or maybe it's a mere coincidence but the
Knicks, who might even be worse off than the Raptors right now, had scouts
at Sunday's game in Toronto and Monday's game in Orlando.

The Knicks and Raptors don't play until Jan. 15, the Magic and Knicks don't
play for another week and the Sixers don't see the Knicks until late
January.

This may be conspiracy theory run amok - it might make sense to scout the
Magic Monday but that doesn't explain Sunday - or maybe not.

Anyway, Rose certainly didn't do himself any harm with Monday's game, when
he made some shots, made some passes, defended and not once did he rifle his
mouth guard into the stands like he did last week in Toronto.

It says here you give him his 10 or 11 minutes in the first half of each
game and then trot him out again near the end of the third quarter. If he's
going good, let him finish the game; if not, go with the kid.

And hope someone, somewhere wants to take a chance that Rose has more good
games than bad left in him.

"Hello? Isiah? It's Rob. Have I got a deal for you."

I think they might do a Rose and 2006 unprotected pick for Penny trade. They're going to have to do something this offseason to improve the team if they want any shot at re-signing Bosh. Getting a top 3 draft pick (in any draft but especially this next draft) is probably not going to turn the team around next year to a point where Bosh would re-sign with them. However, the move above would put them well under instead of over the cap this offseason where they could sign a max contract FA that could help turn their team around quickly enough to keep CB in Toronto. It's a worth a try.

They wont trade for Marbury. I don't see it. They need money under the cap t resign Bosh. Don't know why they would include an unprotected pick in a deal for hardaway either. I'd take if I'm the knicks though. Rose gives you an expring contract for next year which can be used if Seattle decides to move Lewis who would be in las year of his contract

Penny is useless, Rose is same contract but one extra year.

Can Rose Help us while QDog and Reezy grow up?

No unprotected first round to take one year of Jalen off the books for them.

Ok, here is the conspiricy: Bosh and Rose for Frye and Penny. IF, someone thinks Frye got nice upside.

Or.......

Does Toronto need Lame James? Might not be all about Jaelen.

It's an unprotected pick because it gives them the cap room to get a max FA to play with Bosh next year. In short, it's an unprotected pick because the cap room gives them a better shot to keep Bosh. The only point was that it's worth a try. Maybe TO disagrees and thinks they'll be able to keep Bosh even if they're terrible next year but get a solid player with a lottery pick.

jalen rose isnt even playing like a 2mm$ player right now. how could anyone sign off on him unless the deal was like even money wise or close to it?

something like

Mo Taylor---22.9
A davis

for
Jalen Rose
Mike James
aaron Williams---22.4
Denver 2006
------------
net savings to Raotors of 6.5-10.3mm[if opt out not activated] in two years

6.5mm is worth a draft pick in the NBA

Would I do this? Yes. Will I like it? No. Can the Knicks get Mike James too?

no one is giving up a lotto pick to save $15 million. they MIGHT give up a protected pick, but that's it.

I would rather chase Mike James if we have to get Jalen. James would be a perfect third guard behind Jamal and Steph.

Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Toronto being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Toronto had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Aaron & Eric Williams come off the books now while Rose is next year and Alvin is the following year so i would say that they would give us their pick !!

Lmao.

You guys actually think they're gonna give up an unprotected 1st to cut 1 year off Jalen's contract?

Keep dreamin!
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

YOu didn't finish the sentence. To get Jalen's contract off the books and be able to sign a max contract FA, which might be enough to get Bosh to re-sign (rather than being over the cap). Not saying it will happen. Maybe a 1 in 10 shot but worth a try. We can throw in Lee and Nate for the chance to get their unprotected pick.

Toronto isn't trading away their unprotected picks for mediocre role players. The only way Toronto trades an unprotected pick is if they get a star in return.

Then they can kiss Bosh goodbye. They're gonna have to do something to add veterans who can help the team win (and cap space could do that for them) if they want to keep him.
