News from Toronto:

For the first time, Babcock said the team's future first-round draft picks could be moved in the right package.

"Nothing's untouchable," he said. "We could move one of those picks if we need it to facilitate a very good trade for our team."

Now before we get our panties in a bunch, if we continue to play sucky ball through February, would you trade Steph to Toronto for one of their picks?

Maybe it would look something like this:

Steph + Ariza for Jalen Rose + 1st round pick (maybe top three protected this year, unprotected next)?

Toronto would only do it if they thought that Steph could give them a ticket draw for a couple of years while they retool, kind of like what we did.

Considering how weak this draft is, the only way I'd consider the trade is if we got their completely unprotected 2006 pick and their 2nd first round pick. Otherwise, you're not likely to get a good enough player in the draft to justify losing Steph.

Isiah's draft eye is his best asset, and Rose comes off the books before Steph.

A weak draft doesn't mean no talent, it means no obvious franchise guys or not stocked into the second round. It doesn't mean a good evaluator can't find quality in there. And lets not overrate what we are giving up.

Do it, if not for now then for the future.

steph for rose + unprotected #1 + their #2 (which will be high)

problem is that isiah would NEVER trade steph to toronto. they don't roll like that.

in fact, everyone he's traded has been sent off to playoff teams.

I would trade Marbury to Dallas for KVH and a #1. KVH, AD, and Penny all come off the books next year.
Sorry, I know Dallas isn't Toronto.

I'd do this trade in theory, becuase at this point, its looking to be that if we dont get some high draft picks were screwed this season. but if zeke did, what are we going to do for a pg? the only way zeke should do this trade is if their is another deal pending, where we can get another point.

The pick is gonna be around 25 in a weak draft. That's not gonna help our team unless you're trying to get under the salary cap. Even then you could still get a better or at least younger player with more upside than KVH.

Give me Devin Harris, that pick and KVH and I'll do it.

Bonn, what makes you say the draft is weak if you have constantly said you don't pay much attention to college bball.

It's a salary dump. You don't know how weak the draft is yet.

Salary dump with the ultimate goal of getting well under the cap or salary dump just to be $19 mil less than $1 trillion over the cap?
Regarding the draft, I guess it's possible every expert is wrong and it will be a strong draft.

I would throw in Nate or Lee if we could get Devin. Dallas wouldn't want Trev, they have enough tweeners.

Salary dump to have players who aren't overpriced and are easier to trade and move.

I pay attention to every expert. Most in Toronto are frustrated that they might get the 1st pick *this* year because it will be like getting an 8th pick most years. (Their exact #s). I don't think I remember ever hearing so many experts this pessimistic about a draft this early.

I'm not for trading Marbury for Keith Van Horn and a pick unless we get Harris, but say we did, we'd be getting VERY close to the cap by trading Marb, and simply letting KVH, Davis and Penny expire. I'm not saying that's the right thing. But that very well could be the plan in mind if in fact, a trade like that were to occur. Marbury for an expiring contract, you're damn right they are trying to shed payroll.

I would do it, Rose deal ends earlier, he is a slick vet who is a better crunch time player than marbs is, and I would like to have their pick unprotected also, that would be great, this is a deal I would do. We could get away with craw at point and Rose at SG. sign me up..

conference play is just starting. The "experts" had Frye as a 2nd rounder and predicted a Loren Woods type career for him at this time last season.

Vitale is one of the few who are usually dead-on in player assessment.

I could care less about the experts. We got plenty of guys on this board who know just as much and watch just as much as them. Josh Boone, Rudy Gay, all of them are supposed to be really good, and I've seen both of those guys a # of times. Don't go by what the experts say, b/c those same experts said that Channing Frye was going to be a major bust.

why would Dallas trade Harris? Maybe Terry but not for Marbury. They have no use for Steph.

I'm not saying they would trade Harris or even want Marbury. What I am saying is that if you want to trade Marbury for KVH and that #25 pick, you BETTER be giving me either Devin Harris or Josh Howard. If not, maybe we'll do business some other time.
