Knicks sign journeyman Woods

The Knicks have agreed to terms with Qyntel Woods, a journeyman small forward they worked out yesterday. He is expected to join the team today in Seattle. The 6-8 Woods, averaging 3.1 points for his career, has made more news off the court than on since the Blazers drafted him in the first round in 2002. He pleaded guilty in January to misdemeanor animal abuse (following an investigation into allegations of dog fighting), and was suspended five games in October 2004 for violating the league's drug program. The Celtics waived him before camp this season. ... The Knicks might be without Quentin Richardson for part of the road trip. He returned to Chicago for a family matter.

over on the Raptors board they are making room for NY at the bottom; the Bulls board has an official watch for the unprotected pick.

Can Ruben Patterson and any of the other Jailblazers be far behind?

Is anybody else disgusted at how we can only bring in players that other teams have no interest in? What a freaking joke.

The Bulls board might as well start one for next year also. If Curry costs us 2 lottery picks plus Sweetney, Isiah better not still be the GM. That trade is shaping up to be a complete disaster.

If they get a mid lottery pick in this year's draft, it will probably be equivalent to a pick around 16 to 20 from most years from what I've heard.

I agree with you islesfan. if we end up giving up two lottery picks its time for Isiah to pack his bags. I don't think we'll be a lottery pick next year, though. Would love to have zeke in charge of scouting (not something he'd do), but he's bend-over-betsy when it comes to trades.

If it's two lottery picks, fine. If it's one this year, I'd still take Curry over that lottery pick, which would probably be a mid to late 1st rd pick in most drafts. You can't view all lottery picks across years equally. Isiah has (intelligently) used draft picks as trade assets in years where the draft is weak and acquired multiple 1st rd picks in years when the draft class is strong.

Another great job of non-sensical rationalization by Bonnie. So from what you've heard, where is this sliding scale?

I don't think this year's draft is that weak. not having any 18yr olds who's name aren't Lebron is a good thing

Lottery picks? Didn't think so.

i hope i'm recollecting this correctly:

A. -2 traded 2 #1's in the marbury deal.
B. -1 traded a #2 in the nazr deal
C. +2 acquired 2 #1's in the malik rose deal.
D. -1 traded a #2 in the mo taylor deal.
E. +1 acquired #1 in the q deal.
F. -3 traded 2 more #1's in the curry deal along with a #2.

so he's given up 4 more picks than he's acquired in his tenure here and considering his drafting ability...that's really a shame.

first round picks - frye, nate, lee
second roung picks - ariza

that's 4 members of your rotation with one possible standout in frye. a few more #1's and we'd be sitting pretty. big knock AGAINST zeke for giving up picks instead of using them.

I agree with giving up one lottery pick for curry, but 07 is going to be a money draft, and I just don't see Zeke finding a GM stupid enough to give up a LOTTERY pick in 07, while he did possibly give up one for Curry. Hopefully we are mediocre to above average by then and this is much ado about nothing, but if its two lottery picks, Zeke needs to get the boot.

his character issues are another topic, but at this point I have confidence in isiahs ablilty to spot talant.

It's a net loss of only 1 1st rd pick in the Chicago deal. There's the possibility of switching 2007 picks with them, which has no impact on your analysis of the net change in draft picks. For reasons I don't understand, your analysis is also equating 1st and 2nd round picks and equating picks across strong and weak drafts

And for reasons I don't understand you constantly equate high lottery picks with low first round picks.

Bonn, what drafts have been strong and what drafts have been weak in your eyes? Last years, which was very deep? The year before which was glittered with talent, but maybe not as deep? This years draft seems to be getting a little stronger by the moment, as guys are starting to pop up. And then before you know it, the Greg Oden draft will be coming. There really hasn't been much of a weak draft in quite sometime Bonn.

I can't believe that people are actually going to complain about this pick up. IF he works out GREAT, we got a nice player on the cheap. If he doesn't work out, then so what, we send him packing.

Hasn't Isaiah proven that he has a pretty good eye for talent and for the most part he has helped this team to be nearly full of young talented players. We only have a few old guys hanging on and they'll be replaced soon too. AD and Penny are already on the plank, just waiting for the final shove. I happen to think that once Curry gets past this season, we'll be looking back at this deal and seeing it as a very positive thing for this team. Don't judge this trade on this season alone.

We have a LOT less holes to fill on this team than we did last year. Once everyone is healthy we will start to see that. We just got our 2 big centers back and they aren't in shape yet. Give it some time.

So what is the scouting report (pure basketball please)? Does it differ any from Demarr Johnson (6'8" skinny, perimeter guy who used to be a hot prospect)?

Character issues aside, I think this guy is a big-time talent and is going to really give us some punch and versatility at the SF position. I'm very anxious to see him play, I just think he's going to shine for us and bring some energy to our team.
