minus the attitude.

Of course it's too early but their games are remarkably similar. Rasheed now has three point range but Channing will get that. Some of his J's are already from way behind the foul line, at least 20 feet out. swish.

Here are Rasheed's numbers from his rookie year.

                               FG 3PT FT Rebounds Misc
Year Team G Min  M A Pct   M A Pct   M A Pct   Off Def Tot  Ast TO Stl Blk PF PPG
 1995-96 WAS 65 27.5  4.2 8.7 48.7   0.4 1.3 32.9   1.2 1.9 65.0   1.4 3.2 4.7   1.3 1.6 0.7 0.8 3.2 10.1

take a look at the FG%. almost 50%, similar to Frye. Also, the FT%: 65%. Frye's could be even better.

Anyway, it's too early to look at stats, but this shows that Frye should get similar types of minutes in order to get a similar development.

Oh, Channing can be better than Sheed. He can be the player Sheed was SUPPOSED to be.

agreed. Never liked Rasheed. he was just the missing piece to the puzzle that already consisted of big ben, rip, billups, prince. Rasheed is a jumpshooter

Frye proves that Isiah's strength is the draft and that we need more picks.

Can we wait until Frye dominates one game before making any more comparisons?

Zeke thinks he's a cross between Rasheed and Tim Duncan.

I've been saying this since I saw him play in summer league! Efw I totally agree.

When it comes to frye being what Rasheed was supposed to be...well, that's pushing it...Sheed's skill, athleticism and size were supposed to REDIFINE the PF spot. Sheed had a Much higher cieling (maybe that's because he came out of Carolina?) coming into the league his skills were unmatched. He was supposed to be THE PF in the league for the next 10 years or so....What he became is a borderline all-star who hasn't maximized his talent. If Frye could become what Rasheed was "supposed" to become, we will have gotten the best player in this draft hands down.

heh. sorry about that code tag. It looked fine on the preview. Maybe someone can teach me how to use it.

I didn't want to get carried away by saying Frye is going to be better than Sheed because you never know what will happen.

All I can say now is that I see the fundamentals in this kid that are so rare now. I have such confidence when he shoots the ball because he's been taught well. I watch a lot of players shoot now and I have no idea if the ball is going in or is going to be an airball (cough, trevor, cough cough). His offensive game does remind me of Duncan's when he first came into the league. The big difference is in the defense. Duncan was a waaayy better defender and rebounder from day 1. But if channing works at it, that will come.

BTW, why does Walt call him Shanning?

I think Sheed will pale in comparison to Frye. Channing has a great head on his shoulders, he is smarter starting out and has a team first attitude. All the pieces to be a hall of Famer, and an asset to the first Knicks Championship in 33+ years!!!!!!! Oh yeah, he's also EXTREMELY talented.
Go Knicks.
Love this game...

You got that right!! Just accumulate picks. Whatever deals we make for our expiring contracts, take back as many picks as possible, in either round.

And, as for the Frye-Rasheed comparison: Frye deserves more credit than that. I would be disappointed if Frye had a similar career as Sheed. I am looking for very big things from Frye based on what we've seen already. Just stick him in the starting lineup, and watch him blossom!!

And, while I'm at it, let's keep giving Ariza the minutes as well. Nice to see he got 34 vs. Kings, but with LB you never know. Maybe he'll be back to 9 mins. vs. Jazz. Let's hope not. Once we're satisfied that Frye and Ariza are consistently getting their minutes, we'll start the campaign to get Lee minutes. He should be playing.

I'm surprised at you guys. Frye may be better than Sheed but Sheed is a damn good player. He's not a superstar but he's a smart player who could average 20, 8, 2 blocks and provide leadership. I had no idea people thought so little of him.

I think the Rasheed we see on the Pistons is the real Rasheed. He's a total team guy now. He's even kind of a nice guy. There's something wrong with the water in Portland.

Seriously, Sheed has the talent to avg 20(with range), 12, 2 blks and 2-3 assists plus amazing defense and leadership. His maturity held him back everywhere but in Detroit, but he now isn't as athletic as he used to be. I would LOVE for Frye to hit that type of peak....can he do it yes, but I think he will be very similiar to the Sheed we see now.

If Curry reaches his potential, we'll be saying his strength is trades (and drafting)!

I concur w/ JoeC... Frye looks like he has the talent to put up big numbers, but a big part of that will be his role on his teams. Looking forward, if he's paired w/ Eddy Curry forever, he may never tap his full potential statistically... tho 15-20ppg/8-10rpg seem within grasp.

I remember Rasheed in college and he had a monsterload more potential than Channing. He hurt his career with his poor attitude, which is something that Channing does not have.

Rasheed, I feel, has and had far more talent than Channing has. But Channing will work better and harder in any system, and is extremely coachable and driven. He will not be an all-star but he will be a solid player.

Interestingly enough Channing has compared himself to Rasheed Wallace. I think Wallace was far more explosive, but Channing is a more intelligent, solid player.

That's a good assessment, but let me ask this question again, how did Frye take over and dominate last nights game again? He did well don't get me wrong but it was a team effort as well, name the point in the game where he took over like a Kobe or a Shaq or a Nowitsky?
