Larry is famous for slow starts. Anyone wanna guess.

Larry has a nice track record. Anyone wanna guess why?

Because laying down a foundation requires that you dig below the surface. If your putting up a building you must first dig below the surface before you go up. The taller the building the deeper the foundation. Imagine seeing a notice for a new skyscraper with a pretty picture of it to show what it looks like when completed. Then day after day your walking by the site and just amazed that the building is not going up but actually they are digging and digging THE OTHER WAY!

IMagine reading about this wonderful building and maybe thinking about buying a place in it. Day after day the hole gets deeper and deeper. Logically you understand but then you just lose site of it all and think "how the hell am I going to enjoy this place if they are going the wrong way!

days go by and start thinking what fools these workers are. They should get new ones, younger ones! The old ones despite the fact they have worked on many buildings, just don's seem to be getting it done. A week later, there is a union strike and you notice many new young workers really buzzing. A few days later you see things have stopped and they are filling in some dirt. you ask why and a superviser says the young guys were so excited and full of energy they over dug and did it wrong!

Further amazed you seek out the site contracter and question his knowlege and back ground. Angry he yells that you don't know what your talking about and there are many things you don't understand about this site, this company, this piece of land, and how the building must be anchored. Besides, he is only following the specifications given to him!

You go see the Architect who has a nice model of the building in his office and he smiles and tells you about how wonderful it is and it will be a great place. Forgetting about the site, your all pumped up again imagining the finished product only.

The next day you go by the site and it looks like nothing is getting done! You change your commute to work and swear your not even going to bother with this because its never getting done!

A year later you go by and see this wonderful tall building and decide to buy in!! You find out the best units are all gone and the cost has gone up 40%! Outraged you complain but the realitor says the preconstruction price was a good one and those with vision get the better unit and better price. And after all they were the ones patient and will get more enjoyment.

Upset, you leave the sales office and see some few friends who are now living there. You ask how its going and they tell you how much fun it was to watch their new home get built and how amazing to see the old building get torn down, the site prepared and "who could believe it would look this good"! The Architect walks buy at this time and says "I did!". They all talk about how wonderful the gala opening party was for those first owners and how it made moving in so much more exciting! They explaine how the sense of community is very enjoyable and they used to get together to watch it being built. There used to be some more friends who were in the early group but they lost patience and dropped out.

Guys and girls, there is no guarantee this team will ever win a champioinship, in fact I suspect its not really designed to do so by the owners. It is designed to eventually succeed and go deep in the playoffs making money for its owners. Perhaps I am wrong and we go further! But this team, this roster, and all the changes being made one can really begin to understand the task at hand and while its very discouraging now, be happy that we are not concerned about building a mediocore team and willing to dig deep to get it done right from the start! Past teams would be more concerned about a slow start but larry can carry this thru.

If anyone is to blame, blame Isiah! But logically its not about the first 10 games, its about getting it right. It might mean upping a lotto pick. But would we prefer we play Eddie out of shape risking injury? Or playing smaller minutes and concentrating on the fundamentals. WOuld we prefer Marbs stay in and pad stats or pull him and give the minutes to others.

Quality minutes are the objective. ANd if you can't give them, you sit. Getting it right is not easy.

You can rest assured that some people will die in the digging process--perhaps as much as half of our current roster.

Great work Nalod. I think it will take a lot of patience with this many good young players. Maybe they'll turn it around after only couple of weeks like the Bulls did last year. Or maybe they'll have a 30 win season like the Grizz did the year before they won 50+ games. As long as the young guys get more and more minutes and improve their play, we should be satisfied. If Antonio Davis and Mo Taylor are still playing ahead of Frye and Lee in April, we should be seriously pissed off though.

Patience has never been a quality in abundant supply, especially in the 5 boroughs...But really, If we can watch the Layden teams lose with NO purpose, we can watch this team adjust to the system - I guarantee Phil Jax would be all over the media talking about how installing the triangle requires time, and 'zen' would have everyone patient...so why can't we afford Larry (the better coach) the same luxury?

Whoa, not only did I agree with everything you said, but you just complimented Nalod too. The sky must really be falling, or maybe you're getting acclimated to your role as Gay Robot. I'm very impressed Bonn. My child, who has yet to be concieved, must want your autograph now.

Thanks! Maybe I don't compliment Nalod that often but I definitely don't have a problem with him. He's one of the most entertaining posters in any forum!

Your building analogy doesn't make much sense but I'll play along.

Your story was missing a few points:

The foundation of the building is weak and will never support a building that was promised to reach such great heights.

The Foreman has a habit of using old construction materials, that are past their usefullness, instead of new materials that also happen to have a lot of questions as to their strength, durability and usefulness in terms of becoming cornerstones of the building.

The construction company has a lot of "no-show" employees, taking up a large chunk of the budgeted salaries with not much end in sight.

And most importantly, the architect, with a questionable history filled with failures, has wasted all of the company's resources in trying to get everybody to really believe that this wonderful building was really going to be put up. Now there's a half contructed building with a weak foundation that doesn't look like it will ever reach the heights that the architect promised.

Not to mention nobody has seen or authorized the final blueprint--how do we pour a correct foundation for an unknown building?

From Today's NY Post - Peter Vecsey's column
For the time being, it appears, the young guys are off limits, odd since none of the acceptable building blocks will ever be mistaken for a foundation.

I hate when Vecsey steals my lines.
