So even if the #8 pick in the draft may help us, he won't get a chance. Brown must have some deep issue with young people in general. I don't know if some punk broke a window, cursed him out, or he's just afraid of the youth of today but he has some real issue. Frye has outplayed most of the PFs on this roster as well as Lee and Butler. I mean he is just proving his critics right with their attacks on his handling of Darko.

BROWN'S ROOKIES STILL UNDER WRAPS

November 4, 2005 -- So much for the youth movement.
The Knicks' celebrated three rookie first-round draft picks played a total of nine minutes on opening night in Boston. And it's not changing for the near future, according to Larry Brown.

Of the three, only 5-9 point guard Nate Robinson got time, and only sparingly. Power forward David Lee was inactive and Channing Frye got a DNP — the only player on the 12-man active roster who didn't get in.

Though the Knicks were destroyed by the Celtics on the boards, Brown didn't see fit to use Frye, the 6-11 power forward selected with the eighth pick. Had Maurice Taylor sat out because of his sprained knee, Frye might have played. Brown used 6-7 Malik Rose five minutes but mostly at small forward.

So barring any injuries, Frye is out of the rotation for now.

"We played one game," Brown said. "I want Jackie Butler, Channing Frye and David Lee to play but I don't know when it's going to happen. They get better every single day. We got to sort things out. It's a work in progress as we've said."

Robinson shot 1-for-5 but had three rebounds, including a putback of his own miss. Knick superfan Spike Lee wants to see a lot of Robinson, as he plans to wear Robinson's jersey at games.

"He's going to be the crowd favorite," Lee told The Post. "Look, I'm taller than him. He's one of us."

Don't read to much into the DNP of Frye on Wednesday, He will get plenty of time to showcase his talents very soon, Brown is just playing the vets to give them value for a future trade that's all this is about. We all know who is really deserves the bulk of the playing time just be patient it will all come around. I do admit I am not real happy that he can't make a real decision about the starting lineup which resulted in hurting JC's feeling on Wednesday, but LB is just showing that he is trying to be a nice guy and give everyone a chance to play in the meantime some feelings will be hurt. That's Showbiz!

until channing frye is used in a true meaningful way, i hope we lose every game

the only way things change sometimes is by pressure and losing=pressure. if they have enough Ls early, maybe they will re-adjust their thought patterns.

im watching tonight's game, but i would have to imagine that ANYONE who PAID for a ticket WANTS to see Frye, Ariza, Lee, Robinson in meaningful roles on the court. I would like to go to a few games to wet my feet again, but I will wait until the youngins are established where i know im not paying to go watch malik rose having his shot blocked by delonte west or fat arse james picking up 5 fouls in 10 minutes etc.... I would like to unveil a new younger athletic knick team, and Im willing as a fan to stand losing with a goal of progression if that happens to be the case. i do think however, with the right combination of vets and youth we could be better than we showed the other night against a very mediocre Boston team

The most distrubing thing is that this is Brown's pattern all over again. He plays rookies in the pre-season and forgets about them. He doesn't trust rookies. I mean you know tell me that AD deserves to get more minutes just because he played for Brown back in the early 90s. Great, the guy doesn't show up for training camp after his refusal to report (except for a free dinner), grumbles to the Chicago press and NY press about being waived, and misses early pre-season games and he gets rewarded with the starting 4 position. Frye on the other hand has wanted to be a Knick since April, worked hard on his game, did everything asked of him and more, and gets rewarded with a DNP. Nice. I guess we could expect these guys to be traded for your Lynch's, McKies, better he can get Tyrone Hill on this team too.

LB doesn't give a **** about the players' trading value, that is nonsense. LB must have some kind of Japanese roots where seniority is more important than talent or performance. Respect the vets, your time will come...

Yep, one of his biggest flaws as a young coach. I remember the trouble he had with John Wallace. So what was the solution trade all those rookies the next season. Granted Wallace really never lived up to expectations, and McCarty was never more than a role player (won't even discuss Jones), JVG never even bother to educate them instead just wrote them off saying he can't relate to rookies. That's nice. This is the very reason that Paxson didn't give him the Cavs job (why would you not want to start LBJ as a rookie?).

yep, but that didn't happen last year until it was too late. SIMPLY RIDICULOUS.

I'm going to the game. I want to see Frye & Lee play but most likely they won't. At least this is opening night, sellout at the Garden, so it definitely makes it worth it. If it was any other game I would rather not go to see Malik Rose

...and the rookies we had weren't very good. Jeff Van Gundy is a very very good coach.

Brown said the rookies will play in Dec.

Hopefully Christmas happens tonight. One game into the season and its the same old Knicks. The fans will change when they see something different. The Bos game was a continuation of last season. Good enough to lose while young talent sat on the bench. Until something changes all the jerks in the media are right. Isiah's an idiot, Larry can only coach vets and the Knicks are a paper team with no heart.

Its a shame Ike broke his finger because I could totally see Diogu getting 10 points and 15 boards against us on Sunday against Curry, Mo T and AD

IT said Brown should play to win. Brown is going to play to win if IT says so or not. So is almost any good coach. I think the rookies will play eventually - but they're going to have to earn it. The coach not being willing to play rookies is thrown at almost every coach especially the better ones. Riley, Van Gundy, Larry Brown, Jackson, Carlisle, Jerry Sloan, George Karl - have all been cursed or praised for not playing rookies There are some pretty good coaches on that list. In any sport there is a balance being ready to play and learning on the Job. I trust LB to make that decision much more then posters willing to second guess one of the best coaches in BB after ONE GAME.

The proclamation that "Nate Robinson is the most exciting NY rook since Rod Strickland." You mean, he's more exciting than Jerrod Mustaf, Hubie Davis, Monty Williams, Charlie Ward, Greg Anthony, John Wallace, Walter McCarty, Dontae Jones, John Thomas, Fred Weis, Lavor Postell, Mike Sweetney, Maciej Lampe and Trevor Ariza? You really want to go out on a limb like that?

It's a mistake that we will pay for dearly. Larry is a great coach, but I hate the fact that he is always affraid to use the yougins...

Crawford, Frye, Robinson, Barnes, Curry - They're all in the rotation tonight. Are they old?
So we aren't going to play the rookies?
