same length of contract - similar dollars.

spurs love malik and brent is odd man out in the rotation.

brent could help us more than rose could at this point.

any thoughts on that one?

Brent doesn't play much defense but he has a lot of nice skills and would fit in very nicely as an SF and occasional SG. I'd like this trade a lot.

Brent was playing good defense in the playoffs last year!
I like the idea of getting Brent Barry in NY. He would be the veteran shooter The Knicks need....well not need but at least can trust. Plus he can run the point very well....dude got handles.

Just as long as he doesn't Crip walk.....sheesh.

I think they could get more for Brent. But if SA wanted M Rose back, this works well. He has PG skills. Seems good. Or maybe a three way to get that pass first mentality backup PG with an expiring contract or something. Whoever this fictional PG may be.

I love the trade- but, if it did happen, I bet Barry would be starting for us!

The trade doesn't work out--we already have a white guy on the team.

It doesn;t match up and there is no other realistic trade between us and them to get him. It was a very cool idea though, I'll tell you that.

Starting SF would come down to Q, Barry, and Ariza. I wouldn't complain about any of them starting because there isn't a huge difference between them.

They can sign a player for the league min to make the salaries match and then we waive that player right away or send him to the D League. Alternatively, any one of the Spurs' 8 lowest paid players could be added to the deal to make the salaries match. It wouldn't be hard at all to make it work if they're interested in the deal.

Are kidding me, Brents spotty defense an steaky shooting last year, no thanks. And just becuase malik was a fan favorite ( ala Spree) doest mean the spurs really wanted him. That trade was a no brainer for the spurs, who just happen to have come across an even bigger fan in IT. Brent is a solid back up, but I see no real use for that type of play on this current squad.

I actually like it.

It doesn't help that much with defense, but it does give us an outside threat + occasional point help.

I think Malik and 2nd would be needed to get it done...or maybe 2 2nd's.

Also...that would make it easier later on to trade Marbury b/c we'd have point forward help with Barry.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Barry has 3 years left.

Malik 4.

Salaries don't match up. 4.6 versus 6 this year.

San An would have to throw in a filler to make it work...

Not every move has to drastically improve the defense. We're not giving up a top notch defender by any means and it's not like Barry would be taking minutes away from a top notch defender. This move would primarily be a big upgrade in many aspects of the offensive end (passing, dribbling, shooting)
