This would be an excellent move if we could deal Malik to the Blazers, but who would we trade him for??? According to the Chicago Tribune...Copyright © 2005, The Chicago Tribune

Knicks' shuffle in works

It may be that the Knicks' roster shuffle is starting. Word is that they have been talking to desperate-for-veterans Portland about Malik Rose, who started Saturday night in what seemed to be a showcase. Brown is said to want to go with a youngster, like Channing Frye or David Lee, at power forward.

Also, the Knicks continue to talk about not releasing Antonio Davis.

The Trail Blazers are eager to make a move. They could be the league's worst team, and veteran Ruben Patterson already is saying: "Management will have to make changes. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm not trying to talk bad, but if we continue to do this, we are going to get beat by 30 every night. We haven't even played good teams yet."

Zach Randolph was kicked out of practice, apparently for cursing at new coach Nate McMillan. Asked if it was a lesson from the new coach, Randolph said, "If it was, I didn't get it." McMillan also has been hinting for veteran help.

ISn't derek anderson get the waived via the "Houstan Rule" and is playing elsewhere?

Zach is damaged goods with a bad attidude, a questionalble knee, and a max contract.

Is Theo that much better than Big Lame at this juncture?

Zach's knee looks decent. He's played well in limited minutes in the preseason. I think his recovery could be a lot closer to Jason Kidd's. I wouldn't give up a lot to get him, though (not before we know what we can get out of Frye and Lee at PF).

I'm not particularly interested in Zach at this point simply b/c i don't think we need him. We have Curry at the 5 and if he's here to stay, then by golly we already have a low post scorer who doesn't pass and play defense and Frye can also score in the high and low blocks DOES play defense for a change in this frontcourt. Lee, I want to see a little more of. He will be a real good rebounder and plays his tail off, but he seems to have his limits. But we really don't need Zach. Our frontcourt could be set for now, believe it or not. If anything, we need a long shotblocker/rebounder if James can't stay on the court.

You can trade a contract even though you waived the player? Its true they still owe the money.

I did not suggest you were in favor of trading for Theo and Zach. But there are others whom think it. In fact it was more of an agreement of your statement.

A true smart ass snit would have been more evident. Maybe I should have been paying better attention to my puncuation but I was really keeping making sure I was being careful with my son this morning. HE was late to school this morning. Teens can be so controlling, but I can be also! Then I remembered your wisdom and parental advice so I got a grip and refrained from raping him. Thanks again.

Since you didn't rape him, what did you do? Hold him by his feet while standing at the edge of the roof until he says "I surrender?" lol

i think the only straight up deal that works is Rose for Patterson. Malik Rose and James for Ratliff works but only after Dec 15

Made him read Dido's posts and he got "scared Straight!"

Thought it less severe than a threat of the "tossed salad man!".

I like that because Theo's contract is shorter (is it ending?) and Malik is just not needed here anymore. I wonder if Nate has any desire for a Big Lame reunion? He knows him better than anyone.

I don't think you can trade a contract from the amnesty rule. Here is the rule
Here is the rule. Every NBA team had a chance to dump one player from their roster. Now, that player will be paid every penny he is owed from his contract...but that's player's contract will no longer go against the NBA's luxury tax...which requires a dollar-to-dollar rate. That means that if the Spurs are $20M over the tax threshold...they owe $20M in taxes. If they cut a player...they still owe that player his money....but that player's salary would NOT count against the cap. The player [after clearing waivers] becomes an unrestricted free agent who cannot re-sign with the team that waived him until the actual contract with that team expires.

He is a UFA.

Outside of Przybilla, I don't want any of those players in the Knicks. Theo 2 years ago...YES.

You cannot trade an amnesty waived player or his contract. I think if Malik goes to Portland, it would be for Theo or Ruben. Given those options, I'd prefer to hang on to Malik. He can be a good influence on the kids. Ruben is a cancer and Theo is no prom queen.

Dmiles and Theo for Penny and Malik. That trade would be great
We'll start Steph, Q, DMIles, Theo and Eddy Curry and then we can let Davis go back home. Then we'll have Trevor, Nate, general Lee, Frye, Jamal and Big Game off the bench. I want to see Nate, Q and Dmiles doing the head pound in the Garden

I don't want D. Miles in N.Y. For one he is not a good defender, and second, he doesn't respect his coaches. Just in case you didn't know, Cheek is a disciple of Brown. Remember the incident that Miles had with Mo Cheek? Forget about Miles. Malik and Penny for Theo and draft picks is the way to go. they are the one in need for a player like Malik, so they have to pay. We don't need Theo...We can get by with a combo of Butler and Frye.

Penny in the deal would be nice but wont work under the cap-would have to get back half(maybe more)of the Portland roster.

Just double checked-Penny and Brewer for Ratliff and Patterson works-gives us another shooter, defensively solid (but not as he once was) center and allows IT to buy out Davis.

Brown went after Miles when that fisaco occurred with Cheeks and Miles. Yeah I wouldn't bank on Darius as part of the Knicks too much. Isiah had a problem with Miles for that too. I personally think the Blazers have an issue with authority period. Look at Zack and Nate.
