iknow we traded sweetney for curry, but i feel the playing type and fundamentals of butler remind me of sweetney. same size of the body except butler is slighly taller and has similar great footwork and good work ethic on the boards. i dont know, maybe its just me but i see alot of similarities. some of you may even agree that butler has a higher cieling than sweetney because of his height, shot blocking abilities, etc. if butler actually does follow through with this path, isiah will look like a genius.

honestly, it didn't occur to me until NOW.

You are so right...Zeke is a genius...how about zeke getting rid of every player he inherited.

I did see some similarities in summer league ball. I don't think Butler is as polished as Sweets on the low post, but he's not an unskilled slouch either and does have a height advantage over Sweets. Overall, yeah, I think Butler can fill much the same role Sweetney would have on this team. As an added bonus, he can block a shot or two.

its too bad so many fans were criticized last year for overhyping Butler but fans who didn't see him play when he did

From KT and Sweets to Eddy Curry, Frye,James, Butler, Lee and AD.

Sweetney's numbers in the frontcourt will not be a problem in the least.

i'll admit i'm one of hte fans who didn't think he had much. right now we shouldn't overhype him either. but just imagine, if we didnt sign him from teh CBA, he could've just been another lost player. come to think of it ben wallace was never drafted and he is now an nba all star. it can definately happen, but numbers in preseason can be misleading.

You have to admit...zeke (or his staff) has (have) an eye for young talent.

I thought this exact same thing last time I saw him play. He's younger, taller, and more athletic. Yes, he is our Sweetney consolation prize.

I don't think Butler is nearly as talented as Sweetney, but as far as being a poor man's Sweetney with some height, it's possible.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

To go a little away from topic. Isiah was bashed a lot for taking Frye in the lottery though he didn't really tear up college. But he has had success in summer league and in preseason. Do you think its because though he didn't tear up college he has NBA ready skill sets that Isiah saw in him??? Same thing with Ariza, He didn't really tear up college, but did Isiah see NBA ready skill sets?? Same thing with David Lee. Has that been his trick to finding young talent???

I have to see a lot more from Butler to say that he is better than Sweetney. He certainly has one thing that Sweetney doesnth....one or two inches. He is very affordable and a few years younger than Sweetney...Great job Zeke

I wish I could have see last nights game to see how Butler got his 4 blocks and his points. The game cast had all his shots coming from just about point blank, so I wonder if it was his play or the guard play that generated the offense.

well i'll tell you one thing, he's more agile and taller. other than that work ethic is both great. and butler has similar wing span, i wouldn't be surprised if they mold him into the sweetney type player. as far as the genetics go, butler is sweetney if not better.

Meanwhile, unsung Jackie Butler, signed late last season, continues to impress Brown, and the Knicks' coach spent a lot of time raving about him Saturday night in San Antonio, where the 20-year-old Butler had 12 points and eight rebounds. Brown started James but he played nine ineffective minutes.

"Jackie can play," Brown said emphatically. "He's got the best feel of the game of anybody I've been around that young with that size. He needs to get his weight down and continue to work, but you can't teach the things he can do. I'm surprised he blocked [Manu] Ginobili on dribble penetration. He got a couple of rebounds in a crowd. He makes great interior decisions. It's nice to see."

At one point in the second quarter, Butler turned and shot over Tim Duncan as if he'd been scoring against two-time MVPs all his life. "I always say I can play with these people out here, play with Duncan and all of them, KG [Kevin Garnett]," Butler said. "I've just got to get out there and do it."

I'm glad Butler is a Knick, but reading stuff like that makes me angry that some of these kids don't go to college to learn the game.
