NY fans sure do overrate their own players.

I have been following him since Amaker decided not to offer him a scholarship to SHU, but I'm not giving up Lee.

What's being overrated about Lee? He had one of the highest athleticism rating among all rookies in predraft camp and is showing us why now as he's one of the most efficient rebounders among rookies and a good defender. Salmons hasn't done anything in 3 years.

It's not that New Yorkers overrate their players, it's that some guys underrate them.

no doubt

I dunno salmons looks great....he is looking like Rip Hamilton out there. I don't think they are gonna trade that kid....he will be great to have to sub Igo and Ashton.

Send them Malik and his San Antonio Cheese steaks to Philly.....give the Knicks freakin Mashburn!!! he'll never play again right? sheesh.

Philly needs frontcourt help bad. When they get rolling, Iggy and AI will take a huge % of the time there. While there are others gung ho on Lee, I think he will be a fine ballplayer, but I would NOT have given up those picks and I WOULD trade him for a guy like Salmons--something we dont have a 6-7 guy who handles like a PG /plays defense+he can shoot. Its young for young need for need.

First off, Chicago pre draft camp workouts are extremely overrated. So many guys like Troy Bell have done great in it and have also had the highest rating in athleticism, but have turned to be nothing. But secondly, I agree with you, but just b/c Salmon hasn't done anything yet doesn't mean he wont. He could break out. Not sure if he will or wont. But you can't just make Lee completely untradable yet. He's a real good player, but you still gotto keep options open. I get the impression that some people think he's a real superstar on the rise, but he prolly isn't.

i don't think anyone is trying to make him out to be a star, or untradeable. i just think he's going to be better than salmons despite the fact that he's been doing well as of late. lee on the other hand has always met expectations, in college, in predraft, in summer league, and in preseason he's always been steady.

I agreed with most of the things you said, but I almost fell off my chair when I read that. Because I wouldn't trade David Lee for Salomons, I'm making him untradable? That's a huge leap. Most teams probably have many players I would trade him for. Salmons just doesn't qualify as one of them.

It would be short sighted to trade Lee right now IMO. Sure our frontcourt is stacked right now, but if you project into the future, all we really have long term is Curry, Frye, and Butler. There's room in there for another PF and Lee blends in great. We have the makings of great chemistry there: Curry on the post, Frye on the perimeter, Butler doing the heavy-hitting grunt work and Lee rounding everything out. He's not just another scrappy guy, he has unique ball handling and passing skills for his size, and it's really valuable to have a big man with those kinds of skills.

Salmons looks nice so far, but we could do without him. In general I think Lee's talents are more unique for his position than Salmons. If we needed to, there's a good chance we could get a Salmons-type guy down the line (or who knows, Jamal may become something similar under Brown's tutelage), but it'd be much tougher to get a guy who replaces Lee's skill set and attitude at PF.

Lee is a decent ballplayer, he has fine prospects--the second coming of Tommy Chambers ah no
Jackie butler could easily be better than Lee, less flash but his body and game are much more 4-5 than Lee.
Salmons has much better skills than Lee for 3 and he can drop back to 2 and 2 and 1. I think Lee can be a good energy player, but he will have magnificent problems dealing with real true blue NBA 4s.

briggs, i think your view on salmons is a little bit skewed because we just saw him at his very best. he has the skills to be a star but not the consistency. i say he has a game like he just had against us about 1 in every 5 or 6 outings. the rest of the time for whatever reason he doesn't produce. he's young and maybe this is his breakout time, i don't know. but i'm not sold yet.

now re: lee, of course he's not a chambers type, whoever said he was? chambers was dirk before dirk. but i see lee as being a rodman type with offensive dexterity. rodman was physically small too and look how he thrived in the paint. lee has the strength (not rodman's legendary strength, true), the leapping, the instincts and the hardnosed approach. he could really capitalize on that, plus continue to develop his O and you have a preetty unique and valuable player, i think. you see him differently?

The point is that Lee can be more than just a good energy player. His ballhandling and passing skills are valuable for a big man. He could be like a watered-down kind Divac or Brad Miller out there for us. He'll never be the kind of scorer that those guys were, but I definitely could see him being a potent ingredient in the offense with his passing ability from the frontcourt. Don't sleep on that just yet.

I would do the trade simply because I don't think we need Lee right now and we certainly need a SF.
