I liked Houston as a player and as a citizen, but you don't retire very good player's numbers. You retire the great ones.

wow - i'm surprised the vote is that close.

loved houston - but he's not a retired jersey kind of guy - didn't have that kind of a career IMO.

I voted no, as my personal feeling.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Dolan loves him.
Personally, I'd retire Starks' first. Everybody loved him (except those that hated him for that fateful game).

I said no.. I have a ton of respect for the guy and he was as good as any Knick not named Ewing in the last 10 years but he wasnt the franchise. Good player, hit a lot of big shots, doesnt go up with Walt, Dave, Pat, etc

In the last 20 years only play that deserves to have their number retired is Ewing. If Stephon plays with heart and shows pride for the city of New York and wins a championship, he will be the next one.

Marbury hasnt done crap yet but put up good numbers. I dont think he's any more a franchise player than Houston or Sprewell was. If he's running the team when we win a title or two get back to me. Otherwise he's got a long way to go

What? I am confident that Marb will march this Knicks team deep into the playoffs and earn everyone's respect around the league...

You were confident the Knicks would win 50 games last year.

Hey.. I think Marbury will be fine. The guy can play. We have a bunch of good young talent around him as well. I do believe Marbury wants to win first and foremost at this point in his career.

FYI: Marbury has plenty of respect around the league.. its the media that dogs him

Neither did Pat. So I guess intangables do count.

Marbs is bordering a hall of fame career, but not as a knick. Marbs has compiled nice stats and is a hell of a player. BUt he is on his 4th team, and stuff like that matters. His body of work is incomplete as a knick so its not even a tangable discussion.

Allan was a shooter. He bordered on the line of greatness but did not round out his game, nor should he.

His inflated contract inflated fans expectations. The man was not soft, the mans game was not multidimensional.

The knicks are almost 60 years old, and he is the 4th leading scorer of all time for this franchise. He did that in only 9 years!

IN a game that counts a win as having more points than the opponent, then being a scorer is a pretty important stat to have.
His career should be measured by what he did, not what he did not do. He should be judged by his accomplishments, not by a contract, and not what some fans would have liked to have seen him do.

I long ago set my own parameters as being that only hall of famers should have their numbers retired and that player had to have compiled greater than 60% of those qualifications as a knick, or be a playoff MVP and deliver us a championship.

Despite my desire to see Allan so honored, I would have to say no. Same to Starks and the whole 1990s roster except for Patrik.

If your gonna throw up Allan, then put up Oak.

And Marbs needs 5 more years in a knick uniform. Funny, his stats will likey drop for him to lead us and be better player, yet its his heafty stats that gives him the HOF credentials thus far.

I voted yes. Was he a HOFer? No but he was the face of the knicks surrounded by the worst talent the bottomless pit of money could buy. He was a warrior in his own right having missed only 10 games in first seven years here. He played through pain and did all he could with his talent. He was a class act and unlike his buddy Ward stood up and took blame for his mistakes.

Let's give him credit for what he was not downplay him for that which he was not. He didn't brink a championship but neither did Patrick or Guerin (who should have in number in the rafters) or Oak (who also deserves consideration)

Knick fans seem to have a propensity for adoring tenacious players like Starks who play wildly out of control.

A quick footnote-what has Marbury done YET that even merits consideration?

What has any player done in their first full season with a team that merits consideration?

I voted YES.

He was the only one really producing with the likes of Eisley and every other bum they traded or drafted for during that tenure. he took an 8th seed team into the finals. He deserves it. Its a shame that everyone just remembers him for his contract and his knees. Its a shame how fans on here remember the negative things of Allan Houston and don't want to remember how smooth the jumper was.

as far as the marbury hof or # retiring thing- does Nash or Kidd derserve it?

Nash was MVP last year, and right now, he doesn't deserve either. Same for Kidd.
