I am NOT saying that I was oppossed to the trade. I'm VERY happy having Curry, but if Sweetney does well this season any "he's peaked" at 23 years old argument goes out the window, please.

His minutes were 2nd on the Bulls after Songaila (30 min).

And Fugazy had 8pts 2 rbs and 1 ast in 14 minutes. Whoever wrote that Tim Thoamas (was it Hollinger off ESPN.com or Steve Kerr?) was the "steal of the deal" must have last seen Thomas play on Villanova.

The Bulls starting lineup of Chandler/Sweetney/Deng/Gordon/Hinrich is sick. That said, Curry is the better fit for us. It's going to be to a very interesting rivalry.

NCAA sick. NBA, not quite. Lets see what they have. I'd go with Marbury, Craw, Richardson, Frye, Curry anyday.

Well, I'd be happy for Sweets if he does well w/ the Bulls... for years, he was never really given the green light. Sometimes coaches become so fixated about players' weaknesses that they don't give them the opportunity to showcase their unique talents.

Sweets is gonna have a good time in Chicago playing alongside a tall, shotblocking center. It should perceptively make him a better defender with Chandler standing behind him as a human eraser.

However, as an undersized PF, he'll need to play at an outlandish level (ie like Barkley) to draw double-teams on a regular basis. Tall, run of the mill defenders (think Cliff Robinson-types) should be able to contain him by playing him straight-up... that should limit him to a solid #3 scorer on a playoff team, not as a franchise-type guy.

The man we got in exchange has franchise player potential. He looks like he has a superstar level offensive game--- the type that requires double/triple teams to merely contain-- a #1 or #2 scorer on a good team. He has the tools to elevate every other aspect of his game, and arguably the right coach to nurse the best out of him.

We certainly took a gamble in this trade--- and considering the player we got in return, we had to give up something good, so no knock on Sweetney.

That was when they had Curry. They were sub .500 without him last year.

Sweetney looked really good and the announcer for the celtics game said "Sweeteny will fit better with the bulls than the Knicks" HE's game will escalate.. Playing alongisde Chandler will form a dynamic duo upfront..

wood... I agree. I have no doubt that Sweetney will prove he can be a bigtime post scorer in the NBA. This was a good trade for us, but we gave up something good to make it happen.

You need patience. Some guys just take longer, whether they play 3-4 year of college or whatever.

FishMike, you are absolutely correct.. I agree with you 100% that it was a logical trade for both Squads..

In order to get something , you have to give something.. No doubt Curry will definitely help us especially with his size and post up skills..

Last season when Curry was having probelms with the Bulls organization about a contract extension, Zeke went out trying to acquire him by giving them Sweetney but Chicago wouldn't bulge.. I don't know why... Sweetney will turn out to be a good player especially under the Bull's system..

I never liked Sweetney and thought he was a lost cause. He was a little undersized and didnt lose weight but I am starting to think he will be really good with the Bulls. I thought it was a fluke after the first game but he is doing pretty well. Not many fouls either. I guess he was a good plyaer who didnt get the playing time. Hopefully he keeps doing well.

who scores in the post for the Bulls? Not Chandler. Yes... they have good perimeter players but Sweetney will score closer to 18. I have no doubt about this. The weight thing is overblown. It helps him if anything else. Its a problem when he hits 30, but he's got 7-8 years of playing like this before it catches up with him.

Chandler is better playing center anyway, because he can help more. There are more scoring PFs then there are centers.

I'm happy with the trade. We needed a center and Frye and JJ werent it. Frye's a nice piece but he's going to get pushed around at PF some, much less at center. JJ is a good backup for hacking and whacking 15 minutes and 60 games a year. Its a horrible contract but he's in a good role now for him and the Knicks.

Wood... If I was the bulls no way I make that trade last year. Lets face it... we paid in terms of $$$ a lot more but we clearly got the more valuable player. That being said Pax was backed into a corner and Curry was gone regardless. That being the case Sweetney was a great pickup to somewhat salvage a bad situation

Are you serious? wait til the Bulls come to town, Knicks/Bulls is going to be the first old rivalry that makes a comeback.

I was just joking about the 12/8. That's why I put the smiley face. I wouldn't be surprised if he scored closer to 14 and gave up about 18 while on the floor because his lateral movement slow.
The weight issue is overblown if you care only about offense but not if you care about his ability to guard his man and to rotate and help quickly on defense.

he didnt have problems guarding bigs last year. He had problems chasing smaller guys on the perimeter. If you have Sweetney coming out 20 feet to check guys (as he often did last year) the problem is the coaching and not Sweetney's weight.

Agreed. Bottom line is Sweetney didn't fit on this roster and he makes a whole lot of sense next to Chandler. I don't think there's any denying that Curry is a superior post pressence though.
