either straight up or Mo T + Jackie for Ratliff and a 2006 #2

Ratliff is 32 but he's still a premier shotblocker, even last year. Go look at his game log. He had 10 games with 5 blocks or more. Its a good $$$ deal for Portland. It gives us one of the bigger longer frontcourts in the NBA as well.

you put
Ratliff 6'10, Frye 6'10, Rose 6'7, Curry 6'11, BigGame 7'1 and you have a lot of length and size patrolling the paint. It can make it a hell of a lot easier for the perimeter guys to get up on their men.

I think Ratliff is a great fit for 20 minutes a night, even if he's only good for 65-70 games.

why would portland do the trade?
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Frye is a legit 6'11". He's the same height as Curry.

But I agree about Theo. I'd do it.

Portland wouldn't do that really.

They save ONE year. Big deal.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

13million plus luxury tax = $26 million. that's a lot of money even for an NBA team.

We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

A year ago we did not have a single center, and now we want to have 4!!!
I like Ratliff and Porland needs a back up PF, but...I don't think we need Ratliff because we have Jerome.

Same here. Let's first see what will James bring to this team because we have enough centers (wow, I'm really saying this!) to have a strong season. Curry will hopefully be fine. James has to play no matter what; he won't get his money for nothing. Frye can step up at C and play many minutes. We are set at 5..

Portland won't do that trade.. C'mon, obviously Mo Taylor isn't the kind of player NAte Mcmillan would be looking for..

Taylor has a bad rap on defense, rebounding and playing consistently.. Making 9mill per yr isn't making his trade value any better..

Butler has yet to show something in the NBA..

I'm really surprised you're recommending this trade Fish. It looks like the Baker-Norris/Taylor trade Part II. We're taking on an extra year in a contract and about $15 mil extra salary (things I thought you'd care about) for a veteran with no upside, who's well on the downward end of his career, and will only be a bench contributor. (I'm not even saying that I'm against the trade; I'm just shocked that you would do this trade considering how much you were against adding comparable salary for a veteran with no upside who was just a bench player when we got Mo T.)

I could care less about $$$. Cap flexibility went south when we signed JJ. With Curry it doesnt matter, because he was the kind of guy you wanted to have cap flexibility in the first place to get.

Ratliff is 32. He's had some healthy problems bt he's NOT Vin Baker. He plays very hard, and he's still one of the league's top shot blockers hands down. I was suprised how good he looked last year tuning into to see Telfair play.

Its a total stop gap move, but he really fits a mold of the kind of frontcourt players you want. He's quick. He gets a lot of tips that dont show up in the books, and his shot blocking can really change the way the guards play D.

There's no reason not win now if its not costing us, and this trade doesnt cost us. Go look at his game log. This isnt a Vin Baker reclamation move.

I'm looking at this:
PF Ratliff, Frye, Lee
C Curry, JJ, Ratliff

I think Mo T gives us nothing, where as Ratliff really fits a mold of what we are trying to do and create

I agree with everything you said about Ratliff; I just didn't know you had switched 180 degrees into a win now mode by adding "stop gap" players. I think Ratliff's and Curry's skills compliment each other perfectly. We'll get more than enough scoring from Curry, which will offset Ratliff's inability to score. We'll get a lot of blocked shots from Ratliff, which will offset Curry's mediocre at best shot-blocking. Ratliff's also a veteran guy with a good attitude who would be nice to have around our young guys. He might even be able to help Eddy become a better shot-blocker.

Would you start Theo at PF and Eddy at C?

yes...
Whats wrong with a stop gap player? You use them for 2 reasons. 1 is there is nothing better out there. 2 is the guy you have for the future isnt ready. I think thats the case with Ratliff. Even though he's got 3 years left I think he's good insurance for both Frye and Curry. I would start him at PF and Curry at center. Then you can bring in Frye, JJ, Lee or Rose for either guy as Ratliff can easily move to center.

Hey.. Eddie Curry changes a lot. We got lucky he fell into our laps. Its about time something went our way. Its another scenario of why you DONT overpay a guy like JJ for 5 years to fill an immediate need. Oh well, life goes on. The important thing is we have Curry and a good core of young guys so its not killing us now.

JUST SAY NO TO THEO RATLIFF!!!!!!

1. He is hurt every year and is way past his prime.

2. Why include Jackie Butler as a throw-in, when Ratliff will be done (he's already medium well) in about 2 years and JB should be devloped nicely in 2 years.

3. We have a very young team, it makes 0 sense to add a 32 year old center when we already have three 7 footers!!!!!

4. We honestly do not need another backup center.
