we took frye, not because he was the most talented(green), we drafted him because he was the best and most ready center available. But now that we have Curry and James, Frye will most likely be playing the 4, and frye by no means was the best pf available at that pick, that would be ike diogu. Had we drafted Ike, we would really be a complete team.

wow, just like that huh?

i think frye would be a perfect complementary player to curry and james. defense and rebounding could be taught and he seems to be willing to learn so let's see how it shakes out before we call it a mistake.

We picked Frye cause Zeke thought he was the best player available.

in terms of the complete package of player with polished skills, knowledge of the game and willing to continue to learn and get better.

I agree that Frye was the best player available.

I'm loving shifting frye to the 4, but when we're running and gunning, frye is the center IMHO.

as many around here know Ike was my favorite choice. That being said Frye is no hack and he's had big rebounding games, especially in the tourney when it counted the most.

It would certainly seem that with Frye and Curry you could really use a dirty work banger type which is exactly why I think you see Malik Rose in the SL to start the year. He's intense on both ends and he hates to lose. I'm looking for him to be a big role player for us next year.

I agree Minty. I think there were better players available. Nobody was going to take Frye that high... we may have even had a shot at nabbing him with the #21, actually. I do think we goofed, but he's what we have.

I could name at least 5 guys I would've taken ahead of Frye, but whatever... he's who we have. Now he has to get on the court and prove me wrong.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I agree. Frye has more length which complements the bulk of James and Curry.

I ranked the draft

Bogut
Bynum
Granger

so forget anyone else, ok we didnt take Bynum, but if there is a basketball professional from the NY Knicks who believes that Danny Granger isnt a better player than Channing Frye, you are on hallucinatic drugs. People keep spewing about this guy Gerald Green this etc..and that guy, but the real steal of the draft was Granger dropping to 17--he was a top 3 player and worse, he went to the pacers.

Thing is though we had TT under contract, Ariza as an up and comer for small dime and Q who we just traded for. Throw in That Dranger is injury prone, I can see why Zeke stayed away from him. And this team needed BIG. End of story.

why don't we let Channing make a case for himself before we annoint him a mistake. I think Curry will complement him very nicely. Curry will bang in the low post and Frye can spot on the wing or the high post. both will set vicious picks for Q and Craw and Ariza and Steph and both have soft hands and will get some great looks from our guards.

Diogu/Bynum would not have made any sense with Curry - they would all need the ball in the post a lot, Frye doesn't usually post too much. Granger is good, but an injury question mark and wouldn't make sense with Ariza/Q. I think Frye still makes perfect sense for this team and I'm psyched that with Eddy and Jerome here, Frye gets to cheat from the weakside and block shots. he's going to be good.

Zeke went for talent and basketball IQ. He knew who was coming to coach.

Most of you fans just don't understand. Frye will make you all eat crow with his abilities. This dude is a good kid, and most of all, he is EXTREMELY talented. His style is similar to KG, TD, and many other great players, but will need time to showcase his talents. With Curry on board, he will not have to play the Center position permanently. Is he a Center or a PF? the answer is that he is a combo talented big man with size and length. Was it a mistake to draft him? Hell no, it was a blessing from heaven..

I think there was two specific players that made a lot of sense for us, and now possibly 3-4, but Channing Frye will be a good nBA player. I think sometimes this talk is misconstrued. I consider Frye an untouchable and I personally have high hopes for him, i know he is very skilled offensively and he has the physical tools to do other things very well. If some people think we bypassed a couple of guys who may turn out better, thats just their opinion, but in the end result we all just want Frye to play hard and up to his rather nice potential. If some other player is better, well that happens, we just need channing to be good for what we need.

with what we have right now, and what is to come, we will be championship contender perhaps this season.

had we taken ike (another undersized pf) dispite his standing reach, WE would've called for his head. yes ike is a good player, but how was zeke to know he would have curry and james? not to mention the fact that we had at the time 15 pf's. bottom line, we needed size and frye provided the best "ready now" size available in the draft.
