Thomas Second-Guessing Potential Curry Deal?
3rd October, 2005 - 5:57 am

Chicago Tribune - Eddy Curry should know Monday how badly Isiah Thomas wants him.

Thomas, president of the Knicks, has been trying to find a way to land Curry for at least a year. He is Curry's only suitor but apparently is having second thoughts about pulling off a sign-and-trade for the Bulls' 6-foot-11-inch center.

As of Sunday night, negotiations between the Knicks and Bulls were stalled, according to a source.

Bulls general manager John Paxson balked at Thomas' initial offer to send Tim Thomas and Michael Sweetney and wants forward David Lee or Trevor Ariza, the source said.

Thomas, who took Jamal Crawford off the Bulls' hands in a sign-and-trade last summer, is said to be unwilling to meet Paxson's demand but offered to include first- and second-round draft picks.

Curry has until 11:59 p.m. Monday to accept the Bulls' one-year qualifying offer, but team officials have said they don't mind extending the deadline. If the Bulls and Knicks are close to a deal, that will happen.

The Bulls could include Eric Piatkowski or Jannero Pargo in the deal.

The Knicks need better outside shooting, and Piatkowski could fill the bill. Pargo's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Pargo would sign the Bulls' qualifying offer Monday unless he fits in a sign-and-trade.

Is it our first round? OR one of the spurs picks?

Giving two young players for one who could up and die (pun intended)is a huge risk I don't want to go. TT, Sweets and a low 1st is very fair! Let them find their own LEE! Lee is a "larry brown" player and will be a fan favorite.

I know he has yet to do anyting, But I am excited about his, Nates,a nd sweets potential! We follow these guys and wish them success, its about the fan experience. Same for Sweets, but this one I understand we have to do, and take a risk on.

The Bulls could include Eric Piatkowski or Jannero Pargo in the deal.

That will be enough to compensate Timmy, Sweets and possibly Lee or Ariza and a draft pick?

Hes probably playing hard ball with them. David Lee should not be a deal breaker, but they should have to give up more if they want him. Give them their own #30 to find their own David Lee. It is refreshing that another team covets our young guys, it goes to show who good Isiah is at the draft.

Nocioni or Deng would have to come over if the Bulls want all that.....I would prefer Deng. Deng is not as athletic as Ariza but Deng's skill level is already a step ahead of Ariza. Would be awesome to have both players. Deng plays "D" too.

If Isiah sends Sweets, Timmy, and Ariza or Lee and a draft pick....he will be lynched too!

They gotta find a balance.

I'm really on the edge of my seat on this... Paxson is going to lose Curry no matter what, yet he is insisting on including either Ariza or Lee as part of the deal... Will it happen??? Who knows!?

This potential deal looks like it died on the vine. I don't see it happening if it was ever a deal as reported.

I would wait a little longer before including Arizza or Lee. It can only get uglier as far as Chicago is concerned, so let them stew for awhile and see if they soften up on their demands.

Just a question....what if we are all wrong and the deal isn't implying TT Sweets AND Ariza or Lee, but the Bulls want TT and just Ariza or Lee?

How does that change your attitude towards any deal?

I'd definitely do TT + Lee (ignoring the obvious implication that any trade involving TT means Curry is getting a pretty big deal). NO to any deal involving Ariza, unless we're getting a talented big man like Tyson Chandler back. I WOULD do Sweetney and Ariza for Chandler... but that's a topic for another day.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Dealing any of our young players for Curry with a bad heart is a risk that we don't need. If he is willing to take all of the tests that he doesnt want to grant other teams around the league and passes all of then, than I will say consider the move. However, Curry can not provide the Knicks with anything that we don't already have. Frye will, I repeat, will turn out to be a much greater player than Curry and Kwame combined.

You might be right....Frye did hold his own against Dwight Howard and was able to score the ball nicely against whoever he faced.

Curry is mostly known for his offense anyway......still what I'm getting at is the whole twin tower thing.....It never works....Tim Duncan and Robinson is the exemption. Still David had to become Robert Parish really fast to let Duncan do his thing.

If we did get Curry....what will happen with these two down the line.....

Another thing.....Taylor and Rose aren't chop liver you know. They both wanna play and could earn that respect starting........

Tomorrow!!!!!
