if i coached this team here would be my starting five:

pg: marbury- no brainer

sg: crawford- i still think they need a whole year healthy together ( talking about him and marbury) to mesh. crawford had shown signs of an all- star be he needs to be consistent. i am concerned about the defense but he has the size and quickness to be a great defender with brown's help.

sf: q rich- this is really interesting. i think he would spread the opponent's defense more if he is in. also if you have an athletic 1,2,3,and 4 this could cause nightmares for the opposing team's defense. in my opinion he is the third most talented player on the roster so you have to play him.

pf: tim thomas- here is my philosophy: tim will start to make him happy but sweetney will end games. ti think we need scoring in beginning of games and run the defense ragged and in the second half pound them. tim can play pf and did before. we are sacrificing rebounding and toughness and this will not work against some western conference foes with quick big men but it will with most.

c: jerome james- center by default but he is our anchor on defense. he will man the middle and he is big and mobile enough to have the opposing team think twice about going in the paint. foul trouble is the big problem here because of lack of perimeter defense.but at least we have another big man in frye to spell him.

bench: sweetney, nate rob, houston**, ariza, frye- this should be the core. brown can and will use a 10 man rotation to spell his starters. with this squad you have versatility and quickness. houston will be the eigth man unless he doesn't come back. then slide malik rose in there. mo taylor will be the odd veteran out.

Its not who starts, but who finishes. No way I put TT at PF with his inabiilty to play inside.

Marb/Craw/Nate
Q/Craw/Anfernee
TT/Reezy/Lee
Sweets/Rose/Lee
JJ/Frye

Im not even thinking H20 just yet.

Well if Marbury is playing the 2, then Crawford has to start at the 1 because Q can't handle the point, so I think it will be something like:

Crawford/Marbury/Nate
Marbury/Q/Crawford
TT/Q/Ariza/Lee
Rose/Sweetney/Frye
James/Frye

Although personally I'd like to see

Marbury/Nate
Craw/Q
Ariza/TT/Lee
Frye/Sweetney/Rose
JJ/Frye/Rose

Actually, TT at PF is a novel idea, however, I think I am not enamored with Craw and Q starting at the 2 and 3...

NO NO NO NO do you start TT at PF. He's better suited to play SG than PF. Sweetney goes there.

The problem with TT starting at the 4 is that you won't get any rebounds...that's why if Q starts the 3 then you need a real PF that can rebound, Rose or Sweetney.

how can any self respecting Knick fan want TT in their starting line up?

Its going to be the 3 guards in Marbs, Q, Craw along with JJ and Sweets.

Only in hopes that he can put up decent stats in a contract year and push up his trade value. If the goal is to win games with no concern for the trade value of TT's expiring contract, then Q or Ariza (I'd say Q) should start at SF.

PG-Marbury
SG-Q
SF-Ariza
PF-Frye
C-James

Sweetney: First off the bench. He will feast(pun inteded) on the 2nd stringers.
Nate: Primary PG backup. Should get 12-18 mins a game
Crawford: Primary SG backup. Should split time with Q evenly
Lee and Rose should get some burn also.

The rest are Coaches decision DNP.

i forgot that we still have hardaway. do you think brown will use him? sometimes he falls in love with old broken down players a'la coleman and mullin.

It's essential to have low post scoring and Mo could be the best proven low post player we have.

I like starting the line up BIG
3 guys who are 6-10+
moving Crawford which CHANGES his responsibilities and gives Marbury the responsibilty to concentrate on scoring. I want Crawford to concnetrate on using his 6-5 size to see offer the defender and using his dribble to create pasing lanes or opportunities for drives or mid rangeJs/floaters. I really see Crawford as a big QB a guy who can see over the defense, a guy who changes from shooter to creatro and I think he will match up on the D much better.

Being a realist, Im hoping that James can give us 8-6-2 in 24 minutes, but that wont absolve his FT, nothing will--thats why I like Sweetney as sixth man--possibly coming into the game 6-7 minutes into the first Q--he comes into PF--moves Frye over to C and rotate James and taylor back in, with Rose as a foul/injury/energy guy

Id like to see us CUt Marburys minutes this year--he can do a LOT of damage as a primary scorer[who still can pass] but he needs to play only 35 max or less, same thing with Crawford leaving Q and Nate with around 15-20 minutes each depedning on foul trouble

SF--TT--basically you have to bring it at 110% and execute or you are out for early substitution patterns that include Ariza Malik Q and Lee

also, according to situations we can do something like this
C-Frye
G-Richardson
G Marbury
G Robsinson
G Crawford

a real explosive small ball to change tempo once in a while or we can go

James
Sweetney
Malik
Q
Marbury and play much more aggresive

this is the first time in 4 years I have personal hope, I like what we are doing--im pretty excited for the season, although I know it could easily go the other way at this point, so i have tempered expectaions--if the guys play well together we will win games-

im looking at a 10 man rotation, i think its in our best interests and when we have opportunities for lee to get in there--we need to get him in there

we need to see what we have, but also try to win--i want a winning year here--i want momentum to move our way

I think to start the season, it goes something like

PG- Craw
SG- Marbury
SF- TT
PF- Sweetney
C- James

And then as the season goes, I think you'll see it change to something like:

PG- Crawford
SG- Marbury
SG- Ariza
PF- Sweetney
C- Frye

i have to admit, observing our roster we have a lot more versatility than most other teams. brown can try so many different line-ups to exploit weaknesses. we can run or grind it out. the key are the players. they have to be willing to sacrifice including marbury, whether it is minutes, shots, time at the gym, etc.
