swiped from a recap on realgm.

Says Curry has QO, can agree on a deal, offer sheet or sign and trade. Says the Bulls have to be interested in the S&T and I think Pax said he isn't interested in it. I am not sure his wording wasn't clear. Happy with how the Bulls handled the heart situation. Says the Bulls would need something "they really wanted" back in a S&T and Pax doesn't see that happening.

There is a multi year offer on the table for Curry that he could sign now if he wanted. Pax still has concerns about Curry's heart and wants to share the risk with Curry. Says Curry might have to take the QO and thats no fault of the Bulls or Eddy just the situation. Says the Bulls sinking Eddy's value is "absurd" and "absolutely wrong". Pax says they are trying to structure something that protects the Bulls, Eddy might have to play out for the QO. Says he feels bad for Eddy and he is a "great kid" and doesn't deserve the heart thing happening to him but its the situation they have to deal with. He is really very adament about this.

Pax talked a bit about the DNA test and Curry's medical clearance with no real new information. Says some doctors have cleared Curry but there are others that still have concerns. Says come October 1st his hand might be forced on the DNA test. Not sure if that means he is going to put his foot down and make him take the test before he gets cleared. From Pax's further comments I am really getting the feeling that Curry is going to get the DNA test or he isn't going to play for the Bulls. He never said anything explicit along those lines but Pax seems personally concerned about it.

Asked about the rotation and basically said its Skiles problem but he understands that there might be problems. Says they still haven't addressed the big guard problem outside of Jesus.. I mean Eddie Basden. Says Gordon is working harder than anyone else this year to play 35 minutes. Asked if he turned Kirk into a Parrot Head (?) I dunno what they are talking about.

says Curry asked for a SAT
Eddy Curry's agent has asked the Bulls to consider a sign-and-trade for the restricted free agent, a source familiar with the negotiations confirmed Tuesday.

Curry's agent, Leon Rose, did not respond to a message, and Bulls general manager John Paxson declined to confirm or deny the request. But Paxson acknowledged the parties are nowhere near reaching an agreement.

"We're not anywhere close to having anything done," Paxson said.

The workings of a sign-and-trade tend to be complicated. Last summer, after 34 days of negotiations, the Bulls and Knicks agreed to a sign-and-trade that sent Jamal Crawford to New York. The upside was the financial relief the Bulls received in salary-cap room.

Curry seems an unlikely candidate for a sign-and-trade, mainly because his heart condition makes such a scenario even more complex than usual.

Two months ago the league informed the Bulls that Curry's condition would be excluded from disability coverage by its insurance carrier, and since then Rose has been unable to secure a policy for the former Thornwood High star.

Without insurance, the Bulls will not make a long-term contract offer, leaving the parties at an impasse, though Paxson said talks remain amicable.

"There's nothing negative," he said.

Nevertheless, he doesn't have any meetings scheduled with Rose this week and an Oct. 1 deadline is looming. If Curry does not have a contract in place by then, and if he does not have an offer sheet from another team, his only option is to play for the Bulls' qualifying offer of $5.14 million. The latter appears most likely at this point.

Before they make a long-term commitment to Curry, Bulls officials want to see how the condition detected last spring affects his play. If he can play one season without incident, an insurance company is more likely to drop exclusions for 2006-07.

Curry has an enlarged heart and an irregular heartbeat, which forced him to miss the season's final 13 games and the playoffs. Prominent heart specialists the Bulls consulted did not clear Curry to play, but he sought the opinion of a respected cardiologist in Los Angeles and received clearance.

If he plays with the qualifying offer, Curry would need to play with the kind of intensity players exhibit during contract years to command mega-millions next summer as an unrestricted free agent—assuming his health would allow it.

While the Bulls could make the most generous contract offer next year, they run a risk of alienating the 22-year-old center. He could spurn the Bulls if he believes they slighted him.

A sign-and-trade would give the Bulls something in return, but as long as his heart issues continue to haunt Curry and the Bulls, his value diminishes.

Meanwhile, questions continue to surface about Curry's weight and whether he's in shape. Earlier this summer he said he wasn't playing full-court because he didn't want to risk an injury while negotiating a contract. He has been drilling and lifting weights under the guidance of Tim Grover, Michael Jordan's former trainer.

Well there you go....straight from the horses mouth. Paxson admits that they want a big guard. So, with all due respect to Q Richardson....and Brandy ....a trade of Q plus filler for Curry plus filler.

I would trade Q for Curry. The risk alone is worth it. Plus if Curry really sucks and we dont have Q, Ariza will have to develop at SG and Nate will get burn at PG. Plus, what if Houston comes back?! (the last part was a joke)

If we bomb this year maybe we can grab the #1 spot and get Rudy Gay.

more mpg for Tim Thomas?
It's a great gamble if the doctors are reasonably confident Curry's heart is okay.

after a year we would look like this:
Marbury
Crawford
Ariza
Frye
Curry
bench: Sweetney, Nate, Lee, Fats, Rose

If we could have a decent draft and Larry has the kids playing D we could be onto something.

I think you counted Sweetney twice!

after a year we would look like this:
Marbury
Crawford
Ariza
Frye
Curry
Or we could look like
Marbury
Crawford
Ariza
Frye/Sweetney
James

after Curry never plays again or something tragic happens while he's playing

Why, why, why do we feel the need to trade Q for Curry.....That is WAY too big a risk, IMO. If Paxson doesn't want an expiring contract and some draft picks, there are better ways to spend our money...I want Curry but i don't want to overpay and Q is overpaying.

I know; I was just joking. Sweetney at the end of last season was much more fat than JJ; the nickname should apply to him more so than to JJ.

i think it's a good calculated risk.
we'd again lose depth in the backcourt BUT that spot is easier to fill than a potentially 15/7 center with a post game.

it could blow up in our faces but this is the type of "gamble" and "unconvential" moves isiah should be making, not signing the vin bakers of the world.

I don't mind him signing Vin Baker of the world so long as Jamal Crawfords of the world are attached to the deal.
