they knew what was coming, they had ample time to act. they only give a fudge about this absolute bogus money draining war in Iraq, and it took a river of dead bodies for George to get off his fat arse in Texas and back into the WH. he's fixated on on thing, how to keep the us in iraq so he doesnt look like an idiot, so fixated that he forgot about his own country. by the way, love all the help we received from other countries, havent even seen 1 we feel sorry for you message. we need leadership who will get us the F out of Iraq, go on a MAJOR relationship mending spree with a multitude of countries who hate our guts even worse now, including parts of South America. We sit here and waste hundreds of billions that we could use to advance not only our military for the future, but that money couldve been allocated for so many more useful things HERE--things like fast acting military action in a crisis that was right in front of us--we could have had ships move people out by ship train plane and busloads, yet we sat around until we happened to notice New Orleans turned into Atlantis. I just pray for all of us that the next President has brains somewhere other than his arse and concentrates on a prescient military plan going forward, with emphasis on STAYING AGGGRESIVELY well in front of China in every facet of operation, having a solid plan in place to rectify the disturbing and growing energy crisis, and mending fences which Bush has broke down. We need those fences built back up.
Peace

just have to say, kerry is just as dumb as bush and would have been MORE aggressive in IRAQ than bush - if what they said in the debates are true. i was shocked at how dumb kerry came across in the debates.

another bleeding heart liberal. Any day now they will find the weapons of mass destruction and that will shut you right up. Forget any energy crisis and the environment, I got 500 bucks back from the gov!

Kerry wasnt dumb, the democratic party was. Kerry ate Dubya for breakfast in those debates, but the country wont vote for an intellectual, because the red states cant tell the difference between smart and smart ass.

The Dems have only themselves to blame. This population isnt going to elect an intellectual from NE. They also wont elect a jew, a woman or a black man. At some point the Dems need to get their heads out of their asses and realize its not about the best (or who they think is the best) candidate, but who will actually win the damn thing.

look man. i watched the debates. i was horrified. kerry IS dumb. his responses were TERRIBLE. I didnt realize how dumb he is. He's not a smart ass, just an ass. He kept saying he wanted to increase funding for IRAQ. are you kidding me?

What about all the poor people here. Gangs in cities, suburbs, etc. Drugs. People dying of diseases like AIDS and Cancer - yet funding gets cut for that? Why is it that I'm the ONLY American born person doing research in my entire lab? We are training people from every other country here and then they get to take that back to their countries. Nice, yes, but what about American tax dollars being used to train Americans?

What about pollution etc here?

There's terrible living conditions here. Fix that. There's terrible education here. Fix that. The economy sucks. Fix that.

briggs what mending can any president do? Most of these countries hate us because of what we are? not what we do? what did we do that prompted those jackasses to fly those two planes into the towers? How can you mend fences with those who hate that you are prosperous? This disaster is sad, but hurricanes, have ravished other american cities before, just ask the people who live in charleston? my family lives there, they will tell you. People knew about the storm, some left, and as you know, the usual stayed to wait out the storm. who knew it would be this bad. What I think should happen is people need to stop builing in these river towns that are below sea level... Or at least be more prepared.. If I live in kansas, you will be damn sure I have underground tornado shelter...

I agree that we need to fix the education problem. It is funny I am still paying back school loans, and I graduated years ago. yet I know people from Australia and India who came here and went all the way through medical school for got damn free....

My biggest problem with bush is that they will not address the border issues. i say secure the borders is the first thing we need to do. This administration refuses to do that, and will not directly address it either..

I thought his responses made more sense than Bush who was very unprepared. I also remember Kerry saying we should have an exit strategy in Iraq.

Werent you saying in another thread that you should've have done, IT, I-banking or I-something? Maybe that has something to do with it.

I don't think Kerry's dumb at all - but he doesn't have the knack for condensing and articulating complicated thoughts into a simple message. love him or hate him, ol' Billy Bob CLinton had that.

What a joke this is. This has absolutely nothing to with the federal government. Hurricanes happen and the state can do the best that they can to get the people out but one thing will ALWAYS remain true, not everyone wants to leave. Just like when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida, not everyone left, some people are stupid and don't listen to the warnings and some see these warnings come with hurricanes and the storm ends up not even coming close to the magnitude that was predicted, most of the time making evacuation costly and unnecessary.

I feel for all the people of New Orleans but you can't make people leave their homes, if they want to ride out the storm then that is their peroggative and that is exactly what they are going to do. Briggs this has NOTHING to do with George Bush, you liberals are all the same.

what about people who would have wanted to leave but didn't have the means? or access to anywhere to go?

sometimes the role of the government is to think a little proactively and creatively on behalf of its citizens.

Silver, I think bush is terrible too. I'm not a fan of either. I think the feds need to make science and research a more attractive field for americans, because it's important.

silver: I feel for you man, after my bachelors and masters schooling, I owe enough money for a life time... sucks.... I have just come to the conclusion that the cost of my education is a lifetime expense, but it is worth it to me. Just like House payments and insurance payments, student loan payments are the same thing for me...

As someone said on another site:

"The National Guard members from Mississippi and Louisiana in Iraq ought to be brought home immediately. That isn't a "cut and run" strategy: it is an act of necessity as well as compassion."

At least Kerry didn't have a box taped to his back to give him the answers to the questions, which Bush still fumbled.

Out of curiousity, before a natural disaster strikes why is it the military's duty to be hauling people out of New Orleans? If it was simply an issue of transportation I think Greyhound or United Airlines or some major cruise ship would be the way to go--they probably know more about transportation in those cities than the military. Calling it a "river of dead bodies" is a little bit over the top...it seems most people got out and I'm sure some, as always, tried to stay.

It's the responsibility of the government. The military is merely an instrument of the government. But because of the unnecessary war in Iraq, the military isn't available for national defense.

It's the gov't job, not private companies (unless there is a profit in it, right Haliburton)?

So if I know a tornado is coming towards my town I should be able to call some government hotline number to give me a ride? How many people live in Louisiana and Mississippi? Over 7 million people. There is no way you could have planned for such an evacuation ahead of time--nobody really knew how bad it was going to be or what damage it would actually do.
