given that Isiah has turned the roster over, brought in all of his guys at huge expense, has had the luxury of two drafts and hired a high caliber coach making 10mm a year--do you as a knick fan EXPECT to make the eastern conference playoffs and show up for them in 2005-2006 with a team payroll now approaching 120MM $

I'll answer. Yes, anything less is utter disaster and huge failure

Playoffs? Yup. And not a 4 and out either.

I don't know what to expect. It's gonna suck losing in 4 to the #1 seed in the playoffs

You better believe I expect playoffs, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time making up trade scenarios and arguing with you knuckleheads whether Frye is a Center or not, and if we should hold onto Crawford or send him away to Sibera, and if....uhhhh, you get my point.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

it'll be close, but we may get the #8 seed, but there are too many questions on our team and a lot of the eastern teams look better.

I expect them to make the playoffs, but only under the circumstances that Frye can play at a decent level, and same with James, and if the backcourt can gel. If not, than we may very well be a lottery team again, this season.

If our backcourt meshes, scores, and Jerome can get 30 minutes a night.. with Frye giving some weak-side D.. yes. Jerome getting 30 minutes a night is a stretch... so no.

I expect playoffs. whether they're ready to win more than a game or two remains to be seen.

I would say this:

* missing the playoffs = huge failure

* making the playoffs, one round and done = meets expectations

* advance to second round = huge success

I expect a winning record and that should get us in but I don't expect
them to make any real noise. Next season, after smart trades, expiring contracts, and player development, I'll definitely expect more. Small steps guys!!

Anything other then the playoffs would be a total failure.

But I do think they will make the playoffs.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I would say, YES. The Knicks will make some more moves, you see that Brown has already said as much.

This is only year 2 of the plan. More players are needed and Brown is going to help Isiah make the right moves. The KNicks are building a young, long and athletic team. They will be able to run and play D. They need to improve the POST part of their team to make it really work. James is a step for the defensive side. Frye could be an offensive side presence too.

I would say based on everything IT has done the Knicks should make the playoffs and I think they will. Not by much and they will probably be out pretty quick.

My gut reacting is NO, based on the roster and how young some of the pieces are, but I think LB finds a way. I think the real key to the season will be how well the rookies play and LB's role as a teacher.

If LB is going to push JYD, Rose, Marbury, Q and James to 42 wins the playoffs I'm not that impressed. If the younger players are the ones driving the ship than great. Otherwise ho-hum

We have a good backcourt and it has the potential to be good on both ends. What I'm worried about is that if it isn't, and the frontcourt defense turns out to be as bad as I fear, then we turn out to be the worst defensive team in the league, and LB will want to leave after a year and just retire. It's a scenario that's very possible. Do I think it WILL happen. Probably not. But this is what we absolutely NEEEEEEED. We NEED so desperately for Big Gay Jerome James to stay on the court for much more than he has in the past, and we need Frye to be able to compete on both ends. Hopefully, him working out with Agguire turns out to be for the best. We also need Sweetney to improve much from last year. No more foul troubles from him, b/c he could very well be our starting PF of the year.

But yes, I do have a lot of expectations for this team, and they need to get their arses in the playoffs. If not, then it's a disgrace, or probably is, pending on the whole situation.

As the roster stands now, we can make the playoffs with veteran leadership playing key roles and minutes.

I think this must be the way we start, but if we are not clicking, I would have to say go to plan "b" and play the rooks and build for the future by teaching the fundamentals and if that does not product more wins, then we get better lottery position.

I don't want to mortgage the future for going one, or even into the second round. I would benchmark the progress of this franchise other than wins and losses if we are giving time to the young'ins!

A BIG FAT YES. I honestly don't see why some of you are so pessimistic about the Knicks chances of doing well this year. We have Balance and depth. We certainly have more talent than we took into last season and it was widely held that we would win the Atlantic last yr.

Look i think this team was better than they showed last year but things just blew up. that happens. This year I just don't see that happening. LB has avg 10 or more game improvement over his career. You can't count Detroit cuz they were already good. But weak teams that he's taken over usually do MUCH better in his 1st year.

I'd like to also remind you that this team had good records against the Sixer & WIz. We had some wars with the Bulls, so they weren't exactly stomping on us. We had poor mathups with Boston & NJ, but I think we'll do better this year against those team. Only Miami, Indiana & Detroit are significantly better than the Knicks. We have a good shot against all the other teams.

Physically there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to play better D than we did last yr. I'm not expecting aything great. Just more effort and consistency, with the occasional burst of great D at the right time in a game. I'm not worried about the offene. We were 14th in scoring & 12th in FG% last year and we didn't have the team we have now. We have guys comingg off the bench who will be like wild beasts. N8, Ariza, Frye & JC !!! Those guys are some pretty fast and quick handed players. I see a lot of Steals, Blocks & Fastbreaks.
