Just kind of weird news--I didn't know he had lung cancer and I didn't know he was 67. I'm glad this is a non-smoking forum.

Peter Jennings lived to be 67 years old. I know death is always univited but 67 years is longer than most people live.

You got young black males dying at the age of 16 and 17.

How many of them were the face of a major broadcasting network whom people rely on daily for the "truth". Cronchite could have run for president he was that loved?

Bigpimp, I hear you, but this is a national personality.

BUt could he ball? Was he a knick fan?

True dat, especially on that last line.

I was surprised that he died so quickly after just revealing the news in April (I beleieve he had recently found out himself at that time).

bigpimpin, I didn't know you were so socially conscious, then you'll probably agree that alot of the rap music played on 106 & Park is not helping with solving the problem of violence in the black community, right?

Not sure about Jennings but everyone knows that Brokaw is a huge one. I seen him before in Bryant's Park. He was a throw back to the early 20th century style of reporter. He smoked heavy, drinked heavily, and loved women. Very interesting character. He will be missed in my household.

To be perfectly honest nothing is helping. Rap music, television, violent movies, violent games, wrestling, tv news, wars over oil, wars over religion, wars over power, HMOs, domestic violence, smoking, drinking, gambling, and nearly every other vice there is. I think bigpimpin's point is that Jennings lived a long and fulfilling life as he said himself on many occassions especially after he announced his condition.

Thank you Pharzeone,

THANK YOU for putting it in a way that even if they came back to counter what you posted---i know their motive would be too only cause confusion---because you spoken the Truth.

Jennings lived a very fulfilling life. That was exactly my point.

I guess I was just confused as to why race was introduced in order to say that Jennings lived a fulfilling life.

sometimes thats what makes it the most tragic. Life is a such a precious gift. When you see people pass that treat it as such its always a sad loss, because those people have such an impact on others.

I dont know much about PJ, I'm pretty sour on American media as a whole.

Good point Knight, race has nothing to do with Peter Jennings dying. By the way, there are 2 and 3 year old white kids dying of leukemia in hospitals all over the world also...

Sad to see another icon go - he did have a good life though as has been pointed out. Although 67 is longer then most - I think with todays medicine etc it is young. My step grandpa passed away a few weeks ago and he was only 68 - a young 68.

But as sad as it is that he did see more then most people would witness in several lifetimes.

RIP PJ

not too offend anyone but i spoke it as i see it through my eyes. i'm black or should i say, african-american. so i only said Black because that's what i know. no big deal

Life is so hard to some that i imagine they don't give life the same value as you and i would, i wish i live to be 67. The first thing i would say after i died would be, "Don't cry for me."

Cry for those who die before they truly live. Whatever the color,

I took it as why should we stop what we are doing cuz some 67 year old cracka croaked when we got young fellas shooting each other and bad drug problem!

Then it was pointed out that rap glorifies gang life, bling, and sneakers that fellas are kiling each other over and a favorite radiostation plays that kinda music.

Then everyone backed off.

It would make a good O/T discussion, but just in a separate thread.

LOL and hopefully no one really took it the way you described, including you.
