Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Dallas being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Dallas had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

We get Dampier's huge contract but he can play defense and is a legit 7'0, while we get KVH who can rebound and shoot and in his last year of his contract ( same as Abdul-Wahad ) !! No more PF glut !!

C = Dampier / JJ
PF = Frye / Sweets / Lee
SF = Ariza / KVH / Lee
SG = Q / Crawford
PG = Crawford / Nate

Now come on we can move 3 huge contract for 1 huge contract and 2 tradable assets ! Yes Dallas would do it to get Marbs on point and Rose for defense & Mo T for offense ( Cuban would love it ) !!!

Isiah Thomas will lead us back to the playoffs in 2006 !!!

Starbury for Feet Van Corn? NO.

...and Dallas can keep Damp. He's nowhere near woth that long azz contract, and I would doubt Isiah and Larry would take on that cutthroat contract. Hell no.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

So you think Damp + KVH's expiring contract is not worth Marbs, Rose & Mo T ??

I second that. Post these ideas on realgm first, because you should have known this was a really bad trade.

My take on it:
- I like Stephon and believe that he'll blossom under LBrown.
- I don't want Damp and I CAN'T STAND Feet Van Corn (check the archives lol).
- I'm not in agreemnt with the "Trade Marbury and cash out" plan (Reason: first point).

WoW. I guess thats why Ultimateknicks is my favorite site, and I only check realgm when I get bored over here.

Still you should know better than to trade Steph + filler, for Dampier and expiring contracts. You should have known better.

It doesn't make sense to get expirings along with a horrible contract like Dampier. You either go one way or the other. Not to mention, trading our best player just to save money is not my favorite option.

The trade is horrible as you already know but I am so tired of these "trade marbury" posts. Just think -Lb coached marbury in the olympics, he got to know him and his game. IT loves marbury and Lb knows that. Lb agreed to come here and coach. There is no way LB came here with the thought that marbury needs to get traded. LB knows that marbury is GOING to play here and Lb is fine with that. Actually I think its good that Lb coached him in the olympics and that they got to know each other. It should make the transition smoother.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Only works if you consider it a salary dump.

BUt a salary "DAMP"?

Damp at center will not carry us to the promise land, and 3 years he will be sheet!.

Sorry, I would rather we wait until we know Marbs rejects greatness, and there will be other opportunities to dump salary.

any trade involving starbury is not possible

While I'm not averse to trading Marbury in the right deal, This trade makes absoulutley no sense. Marbs is still a very good player and what, 29 YO? There are a couple of scenarios where trading him makes sense:

1) Straight up for another star/near star player (preferably a big)

2) a deal similar to what we gave up for him. If we're gonna take expiring contracts as the bulk of the money coming back, we need to get some combo of picks/prospects back as well. While it's doubtful we would get as much as we gave up * (2 1st rounders/2 prospects (1 of which is probably never gonna play in the NBA) We have to get something. As a lot of people are fond of pointing out, the best players are never traded for JUST expiring contracts. At this point, I think one prospect/1 pick would be the best we could do, considering Steph's (somewhat unfairly) tarnished rep around the league. Also, I agree we should try to attach Rose to any Marbury deal if we can, the way we were stuck taking Penny, if the goal is clearing cap room for 2007. Not sure it'll work though. In most cases, Steph's deal alone is too much for most teams to take on.

A couple of other things on Scenario 2 - If we go that route, it means letting TT/Penny this year, and H20/MoT/JYD next year all expire and not trading their contracts. Also should investigate movig Crawford for a shorter contract as well. And just having the cap space is no guarantee we'll land LeBron, Yao, or Amare.

Nothing I've seen from Isiah so far suggests he wants to go this direction. We'll see what happens with LB aboard now, but this trade dosen't work for us. Dampier? We already have Jerome James!

at first, i wasn't going to post anything. i read the trade proposal and i read the replies ad i figured, hey give the guy a break.

you see, even when i see something that makes absolutely no sense, and trust me this trade idea makes absolutely no sense...

i'm just not one to kick a man when i an see that he is obviously down

...but once you arise to your feet, OngBok, you can EXPECT to hear from me,
