How much can he say until a deal is finalized with Detroit?

The Pistons don't want him back. He's being fired. There has to be a payout, not a buyout.

he's saying clearly that Larry Brown was FIRED by the Pistons...it is NOT a buyout.

that means he can go coach any other team & there won't need to be any compensation returned to the Pistons...good news for the Knicks if he comes here.

Brown will be coaching the Knicks. There is no doubt about it.

This makes the current team a 40-45 win team.

IT needs to make one more move and that is another ALL-STAR caliber player. That is why he wants Walker. I don't but everyone knows you need at least 2 ALL-STAR level guys to carry to load. NY has Marbs and who else? Q is ok, but no one else is close. Walker would be that guy.

Of course not, that would be tampering!!! No offers until the Detroit issue is filed with the league. Larry and his agent are not dumb and they have played this perfectly!

There can't be an offer until the termination of his contract is complete. Otherwise it would be tampering.

solid post. you make a good point, but is Walker that "other" guy? Personally, I like Walker's energy and his ability to play point forward like Mason could back in the day, but with so many PG's already (Nate, Craw, Marbs), and us being stacked at PF already, is it necessary to force the issue here and S&T for him when there might be a better deal down the road?

edit: I'd be willing to accept Walker in NY if we used Craw and Sweetney as trade bait. Maybe something like Walker and LaFrentz for Crawford, Sweetney, and Taylor? Although I'm sure Boston would rather just let him go for free...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Antoine Walker is not an all star player. If he was, he would be signed already. I think some people dont understand basketball. He's got nice talent, always has, but he's an undiscplined low % player who plays porous defense. We need to be patient and go with what we have for now.

Boston will be willing to take one of our expiring contracts...Walker, Lafrenz for Penny and Rose would work

Edit...we don't need Lafrenz bad contract....hell no.

I noticed that Vin Baker's contract is still on their payroll, can we buy the remainder of that contract in a trade of Penny and one of our PF for the extra 5 millions and Walker???

Briggs, the problem is that if Brown is in fact our head coach NEXT season, as opposed to 06-07, then we really need to have a team out there ready to compete. There wouldn't really be any time to **** around and wait for better possibilities. I think Walker would thrive in NY, but I'm also worried about what kind of deal we'd have to strike to bring him in. The only thing I'd accept would be Penny and Rose or JYD for Walker and Lafrentz. No Blount b/c he offers no weak-side defense...Lafrentz does.

That deal would atleast unclog that glut at PF. Any other move where we're bringing in Walker and keeping our PF's as is, I'd say no.

If he's not an all-star, I guess he must have "accidentally" been placed on three all-star teams. He needs to make a lot of changes to his game and it's unknown if he will. That's why I'd be nervious about getting him. However, for a low price (like one expiring contract), I think it's a worthwhile gamble. He's been a huge part the Celtics' past playoff success and has too much talent to overlook. If he plays with the right attittude, he has the skills to be a top 20 player in the league. If he plays with the wrong attitude, we need a coach who will bench him.

I thought you meant his salary is still on the KNICKS' payroll. But ya, Boston still owes him some money b/c they bought him out a few years back.
