We have a new version of our forum software that is underway and we would like to open it up to everyone for a round of feedback. If you don't want to participate, no problem, but for those who do, we would appreciate the feedback.

I had started a list of new features, but it got to become cumbersome, and being the lazy sort, I gave up. I ended up reasoning that each of the new features had better be easy enough to understand than we have not really done a good enough job. I would highlight that there is a few new things in the profile section that users may otherwise miss.

A little background: we have written the forum software ourselves, just for fun. I didn't like the db layout that we were using, so I re-wrote the whole thing, and then worked my way up to the UI. Going forward, new features will be very easy to add. The one big thing that is NOT in there, is the ability to search, that will come down the road.

The data for the BETA area does NOT cross over to the LIVE forums that we use today. I imported all of the data as of last week some time. Please provide any feedback or questions or bugs to the ultimateknicks.com forum and use the other areas for testing.

Thanks for helping us out. Don’t be too harsh, and if we don’t respond to the bugs immediately, go easy on us; we are trying our best with managing ultimateknicks.com and our personal lives.

One more note: I seriously don’t know how the cookies for remembering your login will work when you use the LIVE and BETA forums simultaneously. I do think it will be OK and don’t really expect any problems, but you may have to manually login to one or the other site after browsing the BETA site.

Looks nice Martin, from one coder to another. Can't wait till this goes live and we can use it becuase it has a much nicer look and feel then the current one. Great job.

I only took a quick look but it looks good to me. I was logged in fine. I really like the "quick reply" feature, and the other new feature I noticed is "go to first unread post," which IMO, is incredibly cool. How many times do you open a thread hoping to go to where you left off. Good stuff! Thanks.

I like the "View Entire Thread" and the Quick Reply features best. I can't wait for the permanent upgrade!

the only problems i had with the "old" forums was the lack of search and the billions of pages. 1 problem down..

Nice touch with quick reply-seems better visually-search feature nice-looks like a winner.

On my computer, the text size on the new site was too small. On the plus side, it seemed to be very fast and I liked the new features that were described above.

Quicj reply is very useful, as is the view entire thread option.

I'm also pleased that you guys resisted turning the forum into some flashy, full-of-pictures webpage like some other forums. It's nice and clean just like the original. The cleaner the better IMO

Awesome - like the new addition of orange, also quick reply and view entire thread are great like everyone has been saying. Search is also an important addition. I like the simple layout - and no avatars is a smart move although sometimes they can be fun. I have always loved this site and any improvement to it is a bonus because it is already great.

BTW, I access the forum on my cellphone via gprs. I was wondering is there going to be a big size difference between the pages as they are now and the new version, or will they be about the same?

Thats awesome! My GSM career gives me terrible data speeds. I couldnt load the forum on my celly. I wish the phone carriers in the US are upto par with the ones in Korea, Japan and Europe!

WOW. Just Wow. I have tried to streamline the pages, so they should be smaller.

What is gprs?
