The Portland TrailBlazers might waive Ratliff to save money (similar to what we are doing with Houston). Isiah might consider signing him. A 6'10 center, about 7'5 wingspan, and arguably the best shot blocker in the league!

now you have something... trading for him is a joke among jokes, but a 2 year MLE type deal as a stop gap center is a good idea. We need a veteran up front. Cliff would be a good option too. Something like
Marbury/Nate
Q/Crawford
TT/Ariza/Lee
Sweetney/JYD/Rose
Frye/Ratliff
inactive: Butler (NBDL)
Thats not a bad way to start the year.

Another possibility is veteran shot-blocker Theo Ratliff, who may be waived by the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the amnesty provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. (Teams that pay the luxury tax have a one-time opportunity to release a player. Such teams would still have to pay the player's salary, but he could earn a second salary with another team.)

Look, we need to stay young, because chemistry will take us a long way...Jerome James or Steven Hunter...In fact try to get both of them because we should be able to afford both of them...MLE for Jerome James, because he has been in the league longer and give Hunter a deal worth $3 million...

I worry that Ratliff signs here he'll look like Dikembe did when he was hear.

But, if you're Ratliff- why would you sign in NY, why not go take the same or less money and go to the Spurs? That's what I'd do.

Now- Zeke could trade Penny for Ratliff- Portland waive penny- they save money and we get him outright- perhaps have Portland include something extra (future pick, etc) to balance out the value.

In a way it is, because we need some maturity at the front court. I don't know if you have realised this or not, but: Sweetney, Frye, Butler will be our featured players, and none of the three have been in this league for longer than 3 years...

Jerome James is a fat lazy underachiever that played hard in one playoff series. I would rather run JYD or our rookies out at center than sign him at this point

They are. Bynum is considered a project. The title of the article was "Lakers Are Still Looking for a Few Big Men".

Thanx. I'm not mad at this idea. Ratliff still looks very good out there and his timing is still at it's peak as far as blocking shots.

Another thing. If we got him, he'd start. Believe that. Only way he doesn't is if he comes to camp out of shape which is uncharacteristic of him. But he's played for good teams (he was one of the leaders on the 6ers b4 they traded him at the break in 2000). Plus he knows how to do this little things on this level that Frye may still be learning about. This will be true of one or two of the other centers that have been mentioned as well. But if it were Brown, James (who has the worst hands of any center as far as I can tell), Gadzuric, Hunter or Andersen, Frye will have just as good a chance to start as they would.

Ratliff showed some serious decline last year, but that being said he still blocked 2.5 shots per game.

he sucked... he's shot at this point but if we gave him 2 years and about $2-$3mm per thats a great deal for us and them. He would help us for 15-20 minutes a night. Show Frye some tricks. They are almost exactly the same build. Frye is more skilled, Rat a little more athletic but very similar.

Agree 100% Theo would be a nice addition, especially if Isiah can't get a Kwame(I know some don't want him, but he might be perfect for this new system now.)

I don't. he makes stupid money and for a few years too. No way at that price, I'd rather find Diop or Bumtje-Bumtje. No way we pay 10 million dollars for a guy who is never gonna play 70 games. NO WAY!!

The difference between Theo Ratliff and Diop or Bumtje is so massive, I can't even put it in words. Actually, I can: Theo Ratliff knows how to play basketball, specifically defense. The two fools do not. Please never mention them in the same sentence again.

I agree, but I wouldn't pay him $10 millions either...For $5 millions, I would say it is a good deal
