Both are Kentucky shooters who's on-ball skills were minimized at Kentucky. Herro spent his rookie year as a 6th man with some high scoring affairs on a surprising team, and has moved to the starting PG this season. Obviously the Knicks aren't a Heat-level surprise team, but the impact Quickly has had is similar. We still have to expect some up and down play from Quickley this year, but which prospect would you rather have for the future?

Herro is in a sophomore funk. I wonder how many people are still on the Herro> than RJ bandwagon. Of course it's too early to say, but RJ has taken a leap and Tyler has regressed.

Herro has had a solid season for what he's played. The thing is, RJ's efficiency is slowly creeping up, and then that's not even talking about the other side of the ball, where Barrett has become a strong defender and Herro is not. Because Miami gets the benefit of the doubt, most average fans will prefer Herro, but Barrett has caught up and surpassed in terms of upside.

Herro is shooting the same percentage from 3 as RJ. Not good when it's supposed to be his specialty. He also has a lower VORP and Per than RJ. His counting stats look good because of his minutes, but he's not playing as well as his rookie season.

I think as IQ gets stronger his long wingspan gives him a higher ceiling. IQ has a 6'9 wingspan vs. Herro's alligator arms 6'3 wingspan. Feels like this really makes a difference on both sides of the ball. Herro is good. IQ is good. Just nice to see the Knicks finally nail some picks. RJ/IQ looks like a legit backcourt of the future and I am still super high on Obi/Mitch

I remember IQ standing next to Lillard and thought that IQ could also gain about 10-15lbs and not lose any quickness. He is more herky-jerky style anyway

Both Herro's FT% 3pt% are down 10% vs last year. Perhaps he's nursing an injury to his shooting arm/wrist/hand. When you're as good a shooter as him, you'd expect those to bounce back at some point.

Herro vs Quickley:
Overall, Quickley looks like the higher upside player at the moment, esp if he proves capable of running the PG position full time.

Quickley, while shorter (6'3" vs 6'5"), has a longer wingspan (6'8" vs 6'3"). Yes, Herro surprisingly has T-Rex arms. Quickley profiles better on the defensive end. He also looks like a better ball handler (though Herro looks like he has some slick dribbling).

On offense, Quickley's main bread and butter:
* 3pt shots from deep
* floaters (or lobs)
* creating in the P&R

Quickley's floaters are so darned effective because opponents aren't sure if those are shots or passes (either way, they're doomed if Mitch is on the other end). His release is so quick and unconventional that opponents are slow to react.

Herro, at the moment, looks more creative from mid-range than Quickley (and RJ) - he can score in more ways. Very opportunistic with different ways to make shots. Moves without the ball quite well. Maybe we just haven't seen these aspects from Quickley yet (his movement without the ball was one of his strengths out of college).
