No. He won't learn how to play PG by scoring 25 ppg against inferior competition.

this... I also have no doubt he could do PHili what Ish Smith is going. Its just that Grant isn't allowed to dribble around for entire possessions and take 25 shots for 35 minutes a night.

He also just had a baby, is a rookie PG... I have not lost any faith in him. There is a process and it takes longer than 40ish NBA games to complete

He's learning more playing this way.

It's clear where he has to improve.

1-Quicker release off the ball when he brings it up.
2-The 3 point shot.
3-Get better at finishing off drives.

I've been more impressed with his defense than anything. Shows a ton of defensive potential. He's gotten a few games in (I think 2) where the experience and minutes were so significant. What he got to do in the Boston game was more than anything else he'll ever get in the D League.

This offseason is where he must work on his 3 point shot, and his shots on drives. He goes too high or hard on the finishes. The precision doesn't look that good.

I disagree with the theory he cant improve by going to the D league. He gets

A The keys to the car
B Hes going to see his ball go in the basket and he needs that
C Hes going to get different rhythms back
D Hell get 40 minutes for 2-3-4 games which will help his legs and game condition

He won't get the keys to the car in NY though. He needs to learn how to play within the Triangle and especially play off the ball.

He has to learn how to play with Melo, KP, Affalo etc. He has to learn how to do what Jose does. Bring the ball up, initiate the offense. Shoot 3's. If he is aggressive and wants to make a drive, he needs to do so quicker and more accurately. He holds the ball for too long and doesn't make his move quick enough. If he develops Jose's mindset, with the tools and ability to drive that he has, he can be an incredible 2-way role player for us. I think he's made some improvements. He was completely lost 2 months ago, and now has a better idea of where to go to work.

I feel this is far better for him than the D League. The guy is probably our best on the ball defender along with Gallo at the point. I keep him for those nights that Jose is being roasted. I also keep him in case the offense is out of whack, and we need a guy to come in and create offense by himself, which is what a traditional point guard like him can do.

He has to be aggressive. That's all. He's not aggressive. He definitely plays tentitive. There's something going wrong with his footwork and his ability to create space on the drive. Maybe he's thinking too much.

all reasons why he should go to the d league for a game or two here and there. Same way like they were doing Early. Let him go out there and spread his wings a little. Right now it seems like he needs a break.

It's funny every time we have this debate he comes out with a strong game, faith is rebuilt and then he goes back to being timid rookie Jerian. I personally think the d league would do wonders for Jerian he needs lots of pt to tap that potential we all know he has.

I would swap Jerian for jimmer I think jimmer can contribute more then Jerian right now ... Jerian playing 30 + in the d league would prepaid him for a late season call up.

I could see the D-League helping with his confidence. But maybe it would also hurt his confidence? Fisher and his staff have done a good job developing Galloway, KP, Lance, DWill, etc. I trust their judgment on Grant. If they think he needs a D-League stint... they'll probably send him.

It is sort of maddening that he shows so many signs against the Celtics and Hawks and then he completely disappears and seems to lack any confidence at all.

He also had a new baby last week between the Brooklyn game and Memphis game - supposedly he's not getting much sleep and that's why Sasha has played in the past few games in the second half.

I think he is ready for the NBA but is not quite there with his shot. For that reason, I think he just needs to go down for 3-5 games and shoot in game situations.
I also think it is important for him to learn his teamates here, so our minor league team is more to get him some real game situation shots.
I think he will be able to hit 40% of his shots with some practice. And that will go up. He is a smart cat, great family basketball connection and just has winner
written all over him.

There is a term for that that I remember hearing I think during a TNT studio halftime show. Man, I wish I could remember what it is. Think Kenny Smith mentioned it...

Oh wait... oh yeah... "rookie."

Yeah, I vote for patience on the Grant front. He does seem to have that deer in the headlights look that reminds me of Tony Douglas sometimes though!

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

102,123. Jerian Grant

Players who's fan base said all they needed was to improve their outside shot and a few other things to become a solid player in the NBA. Perhaps we can find out if confidence is all he needs. And he won't get that in a practice gym or on the bench. D-league will help us see if that is the issue. Or else we can add him to that list.

A great deal of hesitation in almost everything Grant does. If he needs anything is to play with a chip on his shoulder. Without it he's a scared, skinny PG, getting abused by seasoned veterans. Some attitude would do wonders for Jerian's game.
