I know I'm in the minority on this, but I always respected Isiah's scout on draft picks. He's great at finding two way talented players that add flexibility to your team. Phil is unknown right now, so I really don't know about his scouting, and how much he was involved in his past coaching stint. So it's like comparing a known skill to an unknown skill.

Who did he draft here that was a two way player??

Channing Frye
David Lee
Nate Robinson
Marty Collins
Renaldo Balkman
Trevor Ariza

Wilson Chandler was a nice selection and is probably the only guy that could be considered talented on both ends of the floor. Can't give Isiah credit when you factor in how he acquired his picks or what he gave up to get him

Anything the Snake does becomes tainted by association. Is this really in question any longer? Damn.

Better question would be: What team would Isiah trade the pick to, what player would he get in return, and how many All-Star games would that pick we never kept be in?

He would be trading out, no doubt.

I guess bringing Isiah into it was not fair.

My real question is more - do people feel comfortable with Phil making the pick? Do you have faith in Phil to make the right pick? Or at least a good pick?

I am comfortable with Phil making the pick. I think he has done a fine job so far. With the exception of Calderon...

1. Dumping Chandler was a no-brainer...dude didn't want to play for the Knicks and mailed it in. Attitude here was poisonous, so he had to go.
2. We saw in the playoffs/finals why dumping JR and Shump was smart (i.e., they are what they are, and the cap space is more valuable)
3. We got a couple of cheap contributors in Shved, Galloway, et al. Value, muffah, value!
4. Bargs is a good fit for the triangle (i.e., good passer, good shooter, stretch 4)
5. Max for Melo is a no-brainer. Dude is a superstar scorer. Those don't grow on trees. We keeping him? Only if we compete this year, otherwise expect Phil to deal him for value. He's an asset.

What's the probs with Phil making the pick?

The best part is Phil's focus on building a team, an offensive system, a defensive "Phil-osophy", and looking to develop yoots into a long-term contender.

Galloway was a good find - made All Rookie 2nd Team. Early was praised after last year's draft as a steal. He's shown flashes in his limited showings.
This board seems so divided on the 4th pick right now, it doesn't matter who Phil picks. Half of us will love him, the other half will roast him.

I always thought Isiah did better with his later picks than anything. I'm choosing to believe he has no involvement with our basketball decisions, or at least hope to hell that's the case.

Isiah had scouts and a team behind him. Then, like now its matter of knick brain trust making the pick.

To think Isiah alone, or phil alone makes it naive.
Is it a democracy? I doubt it, and yes both would have final say.

To pick Isiah is to hate phil, or is it to love isiah?

Playing hindsight draft boy is an exercise we can do with every GM.
The team in that moment, the offers on the table is how you make your choice.
Might be fun to look back.

Denver passed on Amare TWICE!! once for Skita and once for Nene!

Isiah took Frye if I recall because he was NBA ready, and he was.

I thought isiah was good at finding solid role players at the end of the 1st round or second. I didnt factor in phils mid season additions which were decent but not great. Calderon was terrible....i doubt isiah wouldve added him. Isiah pocks athletes....phil picks brains and IQ. Only history will tell whos better.

Yeah, as much as I loathe Isiah as GM, I'd sure be curious to know who he liked at #4. I have a feeling he'd go with Mudiay.

Well I'm in the minority with you then cause I've always said what Isaiah does best is he can find talent or is good at judging talent. He messed us up by trying to build this team with the wrong players that had horrible contracts and trading away every asset we had to get those players. This team is still feeling his F-ups. But everyone needs to realize that he's gonna be the guy taking over for Phil so all we can hope for is he learned his lesson from his time with us and we're finally going in a good direction but to answer the question......I'd rather Isaiah make the pick but not cause I don't think Phil can do a good job rebuilding this team but just cause I haven't seen anything from him yet and cause I do know Isaiah knows good talent.

Mudiay or Stein. ....he likes athletes.....Mudiay is tricky because hes not the shooter isiah was. And we have no bigs next year.

Well that's a dumb question seeing as how Phil hasn't even started his job yet. All Phil has done so far is get rid of the bad apples and the contract that we needed gone.
