The Golden State Warriors have already contacted Steve Kerr and Stan Van Gundy for their head coaching vacancy, and may interview as many as 12 potential candidates.

The Warriors are also expected to contact the Chicago Bulls about the possibility of interviewing Tom Thibodeau.

But, to be sure and to do the appropriate job in looking for a coach, we will interview multiple people and make sure we're doing the right thing."

They're also believed to be considering the merits of former NBA head coaches Lionel Hollins, Mike D'Antoni, George Karl and Jerry Sloan, and college head coaches Fred Hoiberg and Kevin Ollie, and are waiting for assistants David Fizdale, Alvin Gentry and Nate McMillan, the latter two former head coaches, to complete playoff runs.

If this is true I bet they go with someone with more experience. I get the allure of Kerr because he is a winner and is very connected, but he has no experience, like Jackson. As Karl stated in an interview, new coaches all have some adjusting/growing to do - some do it in a year, some two. I don't see why they roll the dice on Kerr when they think they have a roster ready to make a run.

The Knicks on the other hand are a great situation for Kerr outside of the location being across the continent from his family. He can be part of building a team from the ground up (well almost if we re-sign Melo).

Sure there are plenty of down sides but I have to think working directly with Phil would be an ideal situation for Kerr.

Kerr should be a good fit because the timing and situation is great for him. It's a real unique opportunity that other first yr head coaches don't have the luxury of having.

I'm dying to know how much Kerr gets paid. Do you think we offerd the league average for a first year coach and he is trying to drive up his price? For example, Brad Stevens got 6 years 22M (avg 3.6M per year) to do a rebuild of the Celtics. I'm guessing that we wouldn't go more then 4 years and would be in the 4M per range (16M). Maybe Kerr is looking for 6yrs 24M+?

My guess is he wants a contract that can give him an out if Phil leaves, or after one season. I can also see Kerr getting a move to front office if PHil retires.

Can anyone really think it reasonable to coach more than 5 years in a row?

So maybe its:

5 years (aligned with phil) and if phil leaves before 5 years Kerr either has a 2 year extension, becomes in charge of player personel/promoted to replace Phil and name his own coach.

Just my guess. With no deadline there is no reason for him to make the quick decision.

the story that the reporters tell has nothing to do with what the Knicks and Kerr are doing, so I think it's AOK.

Insofar as I could tell, there is exactly 1 report that said the Knicks had not given Kerr the formal written offer and was to do so by Friday. This seems to make sense to me that the timeline for decision-making would take until past the weekend. Also, recall that Kerr is still working for TNT and that the Warriors just fired Jackson, so the timeline for Kerr to wrap up those 2 objectives also fits for the longer timeline.

I can't figure out why all Knicks fans are so upset/confused by why this wasn't wrapped up immediately. Was there an expectation that Phil, Kerr would do this immediately?
