Better PG in the Triangle: OJ Mayo or Rodney Stuckey?

I think it's pretty difficult to say because both are compelling candidates. OJ is the better shooter and moves better without the ball BUT Rodney has much more experience being the primary ballhandler AND has a better midrange game. Rodney has a very good post game and is better at finishing around the basket BUT Mayo is better at breaking his man down and getting to the basket. Mayo is an excellent defender at either guard spot BUT Rodney Stuckey is also AND his strength allows him to cover players that are several inches bigger than him. OJ Mayo has better star potential BUT the triangle has never made a star out of a PG, which makes Stuckey far more likely to succeed with his "blue collar" attitude. OJ Mayo is the better passer and at setting up teammates but the triangle doesn't emphasize this quality for its PGs. I feel like I could go on and on but you guys get the point. So which is it?

I meant to add to "...Mayo is the better passer...." that Rodney is better at crashing the boards, which is more useful in the triangle. Just saying.

Mayo is definitely a 2 guard in this league. Stuckey is a tweener. Mayo was really good last year but he's struggled every other year. I'd be forced to choose Stuckey if you're asking for a pg. He's a good attacker but I think he's a sixth man type of player. So is Mayo really although he can still be a good starting 2 if he gets his **** together.

Neither was Ron Harper. Neither was BJ Armstrong. Neither was Steve Kerr. The triangle doesn't utilize traditional PG's. Besides, Stuckey played PG his first few years in the league. Are you forgetting that he was Chauncey Billups' heir apparent and then assumed the responsibilities full-time?

The triangle doesn't use traditional PG's (see Ron Harper). It's why I think that both guys deserve a look.

between those two... stuckey. need a fearless shooter at the point.

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

I was leaning toward Stuckey too because he's a free agent, which makes him more readily attainable. Even so, OJ Mayo can ball and he showed that for stretches last year and his first two years in the league. He's had some down seasons but he has the potential for more in the right system.

When I think of PG in triangle, I think of Steve Kerr, Paxson, BJ, Fisher, and players like that. So I would go with Jimmer.

Neither are PG's why would you want either of them as a PG, you don't win playing players out of position when they don't have the skills required for that role.

Some think prayer works....

But I have no idea. The only way a team takes him is if we're giving up other assets, they are looking to dump longer contracts or if Felton has rapport with decision-making individuals in an organization. The later option is the only one that should be appealing to us and I think that the Nets would oblige. Remember that Kidd and him were teammates, so maybe Kidd has faith that he can turn things around. I think JR, Felton, Kenyon and maybe cash for Marcus Thorton might have some legs.

both are losers.

holding my nose, it comes down to who hits a corner three better and defends better.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Stuckey's run point more often than not. In Detroit, he was the heir apparent to Chauncey Billups and then he played a couple seasons as their starting PG. In any case, all that is irrelevant because the triangle doesn't use "point guards". Could Steve Kerr even dribble a basketball? I ask because he was the Bulls backup PG. Whether they are starters or backups, PG's in the triangle of this ilk: guys who are good shooters that can move without the ball and defend their position.

High IQ AND DEFENSE. Jimmer lacks both

Nevermind Mayo & Stuckey

I want Jimmer but I'd be hesitant to give him the keys to the car. At least Stuckey and Mayo have demonstrated that they can be starters consistently. And both are good defenders.
