it seems that every day there is some new sad news about him.

If he does a few more squats I think he could get out there. Strengthing his core will compensate for the lack of cartilidge in his knees

Stat is one of the hardest working players in the league when it comes to getting back on the floor after an injury so I expect him to play, but not for long.

Maybe in cases of minor arthritis but no one would get knee replacement surgery or even any knee surgery done if all they needed to do was squat.

Squatting will be useless - unless he drinks 1 to 2 gallons of milk per day.

He's done guys. He may come back just enough so that he can't ever get medical retirement.

He gets paid either way. He might want to keep trying to come back either for his "legacy" or to try to get another contract after this one. However, I'm sure the team would love him to get a medical retirement.

Given the news on Brandon Roy’s sudden retirement, I sat down this morning with Tom Penn, former Portland Trail Blazers vice-president of basketball operations and assistant general manager. He’s now a commentator for ESPN.

Anna: What does this mean for the Blazers?

Tom Penn: If Brandon chooses to retire, and the medical director for the NBA says it’s a career ending injury — that it qualifies — then a year from his last game, in all likelihood, his salary would completely come off the books. Brandon still gets his money but the salary comes off the salary cap and the luxury tax but that doesn’t happen for a full year.

If I were the Knicks, I'd just shut him down and not play him. I don't know if they can force him to retire, but they should try. Its a big deal for them.

Tough to say but the outlook is not good. Maybe they will try to preserve him for the playoffs but if he can't get a solid stretch of regular minutes with this team in order to build chemistry, then he won't be worth much to us anyway.

If by "play" you mean doing what he's supposed to do (i.e., mid-range jumpers, strong action at rim, rebound and play defense) then NO EFFING WAY.

But he'll get some burn and be as ineffective as last year, until he gets injured again and sits the rest of the season. At least we'll have a $20mil expiring to deal after this season. Can't come soon enough.

Stat, please GTFO of here.

I think he will get back on the court and try to play but if he injures his knee again once or twice more shortly after returning (under 40 games)
I think he retires. Last year as soon as he played hard or his minutes went up he had difficulties and had . I wonder if his playing in the Pacers series was why he needed summer surgery.

Wow that seems a bit harsh. I can understand being frustrated with his health issues, but it's not like he wants to have bad knees. In fact he's done more on his bad knees than a lot of players have ever done. I actually hope he can get to play in the post season and have some kind of impact. We've had players that just took the money and never gave a damn, but he's actually working his butt off to rehab and play. He doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the Jerome James or Eddy Curry types.
