So, what do you think the impetus was for this trade? Is Bargnani a piece towards competing for a title? Was it to dump Novak's salary in preparation for the Summer of 2015? Was Crazy Dolan pissed at all the headlines the Nets were making and demanded we make a move?

We added Bargnani to compete for a championship in the next 2 seasons.

We dumped Novak so we'll have more cap space in 2015 to reboot the roster.

Crazy Dolan wanted to see the Knicks in the headlines instead of the Nets.

Voted other.

To me its "all of the above"

MSG is like a "Sub Prime" crisis in waiting.

One day there will be a price to pay. I hope Bargnani has a great "comeback" and becomes the next "Dirk"!

Personally, I think it's a salary dump more than anything else. We clearly aren't good enough to compete for a title and we're only going to get worse the next couple of seasons so Grunwald is planning to rebuild in 2015. My problem is that we just had to pay a premium to get rid of Novak's contract that we signed him to last season and I doubt we'll be doing everything we can to rebuild. If we're actually planning this then we should be looking to trade everyone on the roster to get picks back but Dolan won't allow that.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Both. Its actually the best way to go about it. Every major contract expires at the same time. For those who have argued no hope and no light at the end of the tunnel, it is clearly there in 2 years. 2 years of steady improvements with the goal of a championship, then a remodeling project.

We'll have room for two max type contracts.

one of them could be Melo.

Its both, if it was purely salary dump then they could have just packaged Novak alone with a first or all the picks they gave up and gotten a scrub player who's contract ended after next season saving them 8mil. They went after Bargs because of contract and potential. The hope is to probably rebuild his value, Make the game easier for the core thus keeping our ability to make playoffs. Then maybe sell him at greater value then we bought him for down the road.

It can't be both - We are the 5th best team is the weakest conference, this isn't done with winning a championship in mind. Barring injuries like last year to Rondo, Rose and Granger we will probably win 42 games. Not sure how we are going to defend anybody at this time.

We will see, I think some other teams got a lot better too especially the Cavs.
