Semi-OT: Do we want Chicago to be the 5th or 6th seed?

Where do we want Chicago to finish? The Knicks can help determine the fate of this based on what lineup we throw against Atlanta on Wednesday.

An Atlanta win or Chicago loss results in Atlanta winning 5th place, for a first round match up vs Miami.

Chicago (no Rose, but everyone else playing) is still a hugely tough match up for any team. Boozer/Noah make a tough tandem; Deng is a quality 3. RIP is a quality veteran and Nate can erupt against just about anyone.

Two ways to look at this - assuming they're playing the rest & recovery game right now:
1. They can take down the Nets in the 1st round and their defensive coaching can make things extremely difficult against Miami. They're beefy where Miami isn't.

2. They can be a tougher 1st round match up than the Hawks against the Pacers. I think the Knicks can win against the Pacers, but the Bulls have owned our number this season. An upset here means the Knicks face the Bulls in the 2nd round. Rose's status is still unknown, but presumably he'll keep working hard. Another 3 weeks, and who knows.

5th seed. They take down the Nets, the beat up on Miami in the 2nd round.

6th seed. They beat up on the Pacers (and possibly beat them) then we face 'em in the 2nd round.

Doesn't matter.

I went 'doesn't matter' - not because I think it doesn't matter but because I think when you start planning for a matchup you aren't at your best. I'd rather the Knicks play whoever they're going to play at their best.

5th, no doubt. I don't care about the 1st round matchup but if they can make it to the 2nd to play Miami, Chicago will beat the hell out of them physically before we possibly play them in the ECF.

Voted doesn't matter. Knicks gotta beat whoever is in front of them, whether it's Chicago or another team.

Gotta beat the best to be the best.

I voted for the 5th seed, I like the idea of Chicago and Miami playing a seven game series. Might even watch it.

whatever seed that prevents us from seeing them until the finals if we both make it. Rather face Miami any day before facing Chicago.
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

5th I would say just because it helps avoiding teams that punish you physically as their core strategy in the interest of staying more healthy and less tired in the next round.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

and you want them and Miami to go at it. Such a series should leave both team beat up.

I like them at the 5 seed, because our two worst matchups might play each other in the second round and avoid us. That being said, I would not necessarily mind them beating up Indy a bit before Indy gets to us. I don't think we're a lock to beat Indy in the second round, so wouldn't hurt.

But I like them at 5, not 6. Let alone the unlikely chance Atlanta might beat Indy, what a gift in the second round...

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

That is well said - I guess it's better to play one team that can beat you than two. Let's say I'd rather stumble into that than ask for it though. Sometimes you get exactly what you want and don't get the desired result. Superstition on my part I suppose

Beat the C's.

Then beat the next team, and the team after that. We apparently can beat anyone, anywhere, with barely anyone other than Melo.

i want no part of the bulls. id rather play miami
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Are they going to have Noah?

Presumably they'll have both Noah & Taj Gibson back. They both played last night.

On 2nd thought, I'd prefer them making the 5th seed. If Atlanta wins tonight vs Toronto, tomorrow's again becomes a "Must Win".

We're all dismissing the Hawks. Is there any good reason why the Hawks could engineer a 1st round upset against the Nets or Indiana... or the Heat? They're a 500+ team so they've won a pretty good share of games...

Whichever doesn't lead them to the Knicks. I assume that's against the Heat second round, assuming they get past Brooklyn. You know they're going to give a ton of cheap shots to whoever they play and ideally that'd be against the Heat.

If they play the Pacers, who knows if they lose?

i was real nervous about this ATL vs TOR game...i thought this would be a PIVOTAL game (like the @clev loss last yr late in the season when amare returned)...if atl loses 2nite (which they did) and chic wins tomrrw at wash...then chi is the #5 seed and we avoid playing them in the 2nd rd...WHY on EARTH didnt atlanta play their asses off...al horford was sitting..josh only played a qtr and toronto killed them

They seem to not want the Heat either.

There's the answer. By falling to 6th they have a somewhat tougher matchup in round 1 against Indy instead of Brooklyn but if they win they play us (or Boston) in the 2nd instead of Miami.
