If we lose Lin, are we better than we were last season as of right now?

Lin, Fields, Jeffries out

The PG position is the most important position of a basketball team.
Team chemistry + everyone being on same page + positive/supportive fan base can propel a team to do great things.

With Lin out, I say we are NOT better than last season, even with the welcome presence of Camby/Thomas/KidDUI.
I say we're still right around the 6th seed.

To keep Lin, we have tremendous depth at the PG position which is a GREAT thing.

They will be mediocre a step above the 7 & 8th seed. 2nd rd exit at best whether they finish 4th or 8th

yes, definitely

the guys we got would have played against Miami if they were "85 percent" and cleared by the doctors to play

this is the best I've felt about the Knicks in a long time. It would've been great if Lin re-upped but you can't have it all. The team is decidedly better than it was heading into the season last year

same here bro. i think we win the atlantic and i'm going to guess around 53-56wins. our second unit is pretty damn good and i have a good feeling that amare and melo have plenty of time to figure out ways for them to be both be productive while on the court at the same time. jkidd should help with that and camby should help push amare defensively.

We can be improved but the fact that it is a question....after the deals we just made to get considerably older, means that this off-season is not going well (I'm assuming Lin is gone in this scenario).

If you mortgage your future, you need to make the roster considerably better and the way I see it, we just got worse at two key positions (PG and SG) while also getting better in the front-court (by adding Camby, re-signing Novak, etc.).

We lost depth at SG by losing Landry (might not have been a good starter but him and JR were ok LY whereas this year, it's basically just JR).

At PG, I don't feel that Kidd/Felton is an upgrade over Lin/Baron.

This off-season has been a failure. If we re-sign Lin....it becomes solid (not great, but definitely good).

I voted yes, based on Camby, ignoring Felton and Danny Thomas and Fields, and giving three DUI's out of 5 to Jkidd. JKidd starts, Felton is his caddy and newly designated driver.

And last year at this time Lin was a pipedream that hadn't happened yet.

Whether the Knicks are more talented or not without Lin, i believe the intend with the Knicks front office is to built a veteran team that has the toughness and experience designed to beat a team like Miami. In that regard, and for that reason, i believe we are a much better team that is more prepared for that challenge than ever before. This team is the closest to the 90s Knicks i have seen, and with much more talent.

Exactly if you are mortaging your future you need to make the roster considering better. We don't stand a chance against the Heat not like we ever did. Losing our 3rd best scoring option niw makes it more difficult to compete with boston, indy, chicago & make a deep playoff run

Yes, let's build a veteran team to "win now" knowing that all stats/metrics suggest Lin is a much better PG than Felton right now! Nevermind, how much better he will be than Felton in 3 years.

Not to mention, it's not like Denver can switch 1st rounders with us in 2016.....oh wait a minute, they can...

Should be interesting to see where the team goes in 3yrs as miami and okc rack up championships. Who will the knicks replace these old guys and amare with. Doubt they will ever rebuild. I see them going back into the lottery with a ton of bad contracts

You're joking about PG right? BD could barely walk up the court. Lin avg'ed 8 TOs a game for awhile while getting toasted repeatedly by marginal PGs on defense. Felton+Kidd=Less turnovers, more playoff experience, better defense, better shooting. If "Youtube Prigioni" gives us anything, it's net positive over Lin/BD/Bibby/TD.

I'm really not sure. I liked each move Grunwald made as he made them (except the Kidd one, but grew to understand it ), but now it looks like Lin might not be back and suddenly a few of them don't make sense and we don't look so good. Like Kidd was a waste of money- there's no one to mentor! If we didn't sign him we could have kept the MMLE and used it on Camby, which would have saved us Jorts, Jerome Jordan, TD, cash and 2 second rounders etc, which in turn would have spared us having to send Jared Jeffries to the Blazers.

We could then have signed CJ Watson as Felton's backup for the minimum (he wanted to be in NY and signed with brooklyn for the minimum). Then we'd at least be able to trade for someone resembling a SG. Whats more, if Lin had been honest and said what the Rockets offer was, we could have signed and traded him for Courtney Lee + a young PF.

I don't know, I like the players we have but is:

PG- Felton, Kidd (39, drunk), Prigioni
SG- JR Smith, Shump (injured), White
SF Melo, Copeland
PF Amar'e, Novak, Kurt (42)
C- Tyson, Camby (38)

Really better than:

PG- Lin, BD, Bibby
SG- Fields, JR Smith, TD
SF- Melo, Walker
PF- Amar'e, Novak, Jorts
C- Tyson, JJ, JJ

Do people realize Lin was passing to Chandler, Amare, and Melo. Lins PG play wasn't all that. His competition was non-existent as well.

Knicks had no PG. So of course if you give a starving man a cracker he will swear it's the best cracker he ever tasted.
