The Knicks are hopelessly over the cap for the next three seasons no matter what. Lin will get them all sort of extra money with overseas TV deals and probably advertisers on MSG, etc, so we really shouldn't worry about Dolan's purse strings.

So, the question is - is it a good basketball move to keep Landry Fields at 3yr $20M. Can he actually improve to where he'd be worth his deal? This is an honest question. I don't really know. I like his hustle and his rebounding is very good for his size. He runs the break well and could be a good fit with Kidd on the second unit. He'll probably shoot better than he did this year - he'd have a hard time shooting worse.

I think he's a good insurance policy if Amar'e goes down, too. You slide Melo over to PF and Landry to SF. Otherwise Landry comes off the bench and can also play some SG in a pinch with Shumpert out.

Can the Knicks do better getting a SG for the veteran's minimum? Should they retain Fields? What do you think.

I don't know. Too much money. Such a bad contract that will be impossible to move if we needed to.

based on what? we're all out anyways.

i don't like fields all that much. his jumper is horrific but he is a young player and did show flashes the first of his rookie year last year. based on that and combined with our salary cap position the next few years, i think it might be wise to match in hopes that he gets back to his old self. worst thing that happens is we eat his contract for 3 years and we're already over the cap those years anyways..

my answer depends on how the contract stuff works...are the knicks ALLOWED to match his offer by going over the cap?...i dont think we can afford the $6.67mil/yr hed be getting from toronto...so isnt this an irrelevant question?...again im not sure how the money stuff works
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

they can, it comes out of the consumer anyway.
expect another 33% raise in ticket prices coming soon...

and a extra $3.00 from each vendor for the already outrageous prices.

I love Fields and I want him to succeed, but he is no longer a fit or this team. He trives on moving w/o te ball and relies on a movement offense creating opportunites for him. Our ball hogging star will never send outlet passes in his direction and Fields can'rt shoot from outside especially if his cutting/slashing isn't working.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Bad contract for what amounts to a Matt Barnes type. I like Landry- but come on, he will never live up to that kind of coin. I'd rather get Rashard or Redd to fill out the roster and/or Jeffries.

I agree. Calderon is Nash lite. I think he will fit well with the raptors. He is not worth his contract for the Knicks in my opinion.

Rashard signed with the Heat today. Redd is beyond done.

Jeffries, I agree completely. Rather have Jeffries than Fields, even before the salary considerations.

Woodson showed he will only play him if he absolutely has no choice and way too much money to match. Waste of a roster spot.

Right he was playing 5-10min a game and only started in the playoffs because we had no other options. You weren't taking JR out of the 6th man role and taking shots away from melo & amare with no pgs to steer the offense

I like Landry but the price is too high now. It's just too much for a guy at his level. We need to move on and look for a guard that fits what we're doing now.

Fields is not a shooting guard (or is a horrible shooting guard -- take your pick), and we need a shooting guard, not a small forward.

So to spend $20 million for someone we do not need is absurd.

I won't even mention that $20 million for Landry Fields is absurd.

It would be nice to see if we can James Johnson back from them.

can't do a sign and trade with them once he signs the offer sheet.
