Though coach Mike D'Antoni pushed to sign Jared Jeffries ahead of center Earl Barron, the Knicks still looked into adding the former Knicks center but could not clear a second roster spot fast enough.Unable to give a firm commitment from the Knicks, Barron signed with Milwaukee on a 10-day contract. A source said the Knicks still would monitor the Barron situation.
Team president Donnie Walsh said he still is looking for a legitimate center. Barron was a double-double guy in seven games last season for the Knicks.
"If I see a big guy out there who I think will play on our team, I'll try to get him," Walsh said before the Knicks' 107-88 win over the Hornets last night at the Garden. "But I can't go out and just get a mediocre big guy. The guy's got to be able to go out and play at that level. And you don't have the same selections right now than you would have now."
"The Knicks took a little longer than we wanted," Barron's agent Derek Powell said. "They couldn't commit right away and we couldn't wait."
The Knicks worked out a buyout with Corey Brewer, who signed a three-year deal with Dallas, and waived Kelenna Azubuike, who also is represented by Powell.
Walsh said Barron was still an option but they didn't have the two roster spots open by the time Barron began negotiating with the Bucks.

Now, do you still think the Knicks should give him a try if he is released from the Bucks? If so, how would you do it?
