Timofey Mozgov - Where would he have gone in the last draft?

There have only been a few preseason games, but the guy showed it at FIBA and a lot of posters said "Well that was just FIBA." But, he is playing really well considering he is a rookie. I say he would be a LOCK for top 10 based on his summer league and FIBA play. Looking at where centers often go, he easily could have gone top 5, even with his age. The guy is just too athletic and has too good of an IQ. Think of all the "stupid" centers drafted purely on size and "potential".

I hear you, but my point is, based on how he has played thus far. Even with his age you can tell his IQ is very very high. He has a natural feel for the game and is learning fast. Even though he is older there is the reverse thing to consider, his body isn't beaten by too many minutes.

Andrea Bargnani was drafted with the #1 overall pick in the 2006 draft. Before that he was a rising star in the EuroLeague.

Timofey Mosgov was born 07/16/1986. He would have been 24 during the 2010 NBA Draft. No way he would have been a lottery pick.

Timofey Mozgov would have been picked in the 2nd Round behind the next great big man Hassan Whiteside. LOL But seriously, Mozgov is arguably the second rated Rookie Center behind DeMarcus Cousins. I can't say Greg Monroe or Cole Aldrich are better or more talented than Mozgov.

I would say pick 11-15. His age would somewhat limit his upside in theory, but you have to put him in the same category of a prospect as Robin Lopez and most recently Cole Aldridge. Both players were picked between 11 and 15, and i would say Lopez is his best comparison to date in the nba in terms of what we can expect from him. I doubt he will ever be an all-star, or at least a perennial all-star, but in a league that lacks good, quality, athletic and skilled centers, it's clear we have a center-of-the-future in Mozgov who should be a top-10 center and average 12 points, 8 rebs, and 2 blocks a game in 25-30 mins per game by his 3rd year in the league.

I'd bet money it won't take that long.


I hope it doesn't take that long either. I will bet these numbers over the next 3 season.

Year 1: Similar to Robin Lopez (who did it starting alongside Amare as well.) 8 pts, 5 rebs, 1.5 blks 52% FG 20 mins per.

Year 2: 10 pts, 7 rebs, 1.8 blks 55% FG 25 mins per.

Year 3: 12 pts, 8 rebs, 2 blks 55% FG 28 mins per.

I don't think he will ever play more than 30-32 mins per just because he will always be somewhat prone to fouling. Hopefully he progresses quicker but i just think it is a reasonable pace.
