a fish... u don't have to walk it every morning & every night, u can go away for a day or 2 & come back w/o feeling guilty, & u'll never step in its poop in the backyard or have it hump your leg when it's feeding time... it also won't shed its fur all over your furniture or chew up your favorite pair of shoes.

dogs might be more fun and cooler, but the pest has to be the cat because it takes care of itself, keeps itself clean, and doesn't get into trouble. it's also related to the lion, and cats are maybe the best hunters in nature. fantastic to observe.

I agree with the opinion of cats being better. Having had both cats and dogs before, I think cats may be smarter than dogs, they are more affectionate, and they are self-sufficient.

The only downside is the occasional blood sacrifice if you don't get them declawed.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Cats are more affectionate? Really? I don't have much experience with cats but it's hard for me to imagine an animal being more affectionate than some dogs I've interacted with. I love the Spaniel family of breeds and it's hard for me to imagine an animal more affectionate than many of the Cockers or Cavaliers (for example) that I've interacted with. Nor do I think I would want something more affectionate than they are. That would be too much! I'll grant you the point about self-sufficiency though.

OMG! That's a legitimate breed name; the first four letters got bleeped out!

Even though I voted for dogs, I do think birds are wonderful creatures. I love how they sing. I love it when a pretty cardinal comes into my backyard.

I will third the sentiment on cats being wonderful pets - I was never a cat person but when my girlfriend moved in her cat came with her, and I now consider myself a convert. She is great - sweet, takes care of herself, and entertaining to watch - very affectionate.

I will also say that I believe the bond between a man and his dog is stronger than a bond you will form with a cat. They are both very different creatures, dogs are more co-dependent and a little more fun to play with. Cats on the other hand share their affection when they feel like it - they are more like women where a dog is like your best friend. Both are great though, it comes down to what kind of lifestyle you want. If you travel a lot a cat may be the better option.

It all depends on the person.

Personally, I'd like to get a pot bellied pig one day!
