Did not see it live.

I would assume a ref would give him the benefit of the doubt as it was a close game in the final moments and would not let a call like that determine the outcome.

Or the Ref is just plain crooked.

Al's a douche, but that was a dumb call with Thornton under him.

If Dwight Howard does that, the ref claps and asks for Dwight's autograph.

I think if Al was just holding on to the rim with his body almost vertical and he was looking around to see if Thornton as away, no problems, even if he stays there for an extended bit of time. But do you see where his knees are? You have to PULL yourself up for that.

Its similar to the NFL's no hitting the QB rules. I mean, are nasty dunks outlawed now? Its a little over the top to call Al's dunk from last night unsportsmanlike. Might as well get rid of any kind of showboating dunk then. What difference does it make how you finish it? You're telling me that the double pump, 360, pass to yourself jams are more sporting than what Al did last night because they didn't hang on the rim? Please.

Even though Thornton was right under him, Al should've never put himself in that position.
It's clear he pulled himself up on the rim which is a tech...period.

hey, I don't necessarily disagree with you. But I think Clyde said it best: If you KNOW you were T'ed up for a dunk while hanging on the rim against this team last time, would you even think about coming close again? Or something like that.

And yes, the NBA has rules for what you can and can't do after a dunk. Same with Deke and his blocks with the finger wag. Not my rules, Stern's rules.

It's the rules. You may not agree with them, and maybe Al doesn't either, but they are the rules. And we all know full well that you're going to get T'ed up if you do anything remotely close to showboating when you're hanging on the rim, unless it's absolutely positively clear that you're protecting yourself or a player underneath you. By pulling yourself up like that, you're showboating and you're going to get T'ed up. That was a selfish play by Al. Now, I didn't watch the game b/c I was more interested in watching Game 3 of the '99 Eastern Conference finals on that Great Knicks Games DVD set. However, if it was at the end of the game, then that really shows something about Al. It's the second time he did it. He's not learning from past mistakes.

He's a douche.

If I were lucky enough to be able to dunk like that, I'd want to be able to center my body before I dropped off of the rim.

He should have known better at the end of the day, but the rule is a little silly.

Guy was trying to avoid a Clipper. Bogus call.

But it beats winning at this point.

Here's my question: can you get a tech for landing on a guy after a dunk?
